GAMMA: Interview Toni Eerkilaa

Global Association of MMA, Fight Organization, London
Company profile by Mentor Guru Corleone

Q: Your former manager Jarmo Sisuu released you, but your career has flourished under Blake Phoenix. What has Blake done differently to make the difference?

A: Superior game plans.

Q: It seems Blake keeps you on a heavy dose of donuts and beer because your weight is around 300lbs. Do you think it gives you an advantage in the cage?

A: It's all muscle man - have you looked at my physique? Well, OK, ALMOST all muscle. I think my weight definitely gives me a power advantage. Having said that though, I'm going to drop just a few pounds so that I can cut to 265lbs. That way I can fight for that title as well as the 265+ title.

Q: You had massive success in the GAMMA: Contenders, also winning the title there and going on a 9 fight winning streak, you lost your last 2 fights though, what went wrong?

A: Actually I'm a 2 time GAMMA Contenders Champion, the first time being under my previous management. At Superheavyweight, all of the fighters have so much KO power that any win streak can only last so long. My last loss was against one of the greatest fighters in the weight class throughout all of Tycoon Land, and a former GAMMA champion. My manager and I are still reviewing the fight footage to figure out what I should have done differently.

Q: You lost your title to Sam Snead while at the Contenders, is a rematch something you would like to have?

A: Under the right circumstances I'd be open to a rematch. The fight with Snead was a close one that my manager and I both felt I was 100% capable of winning, so of course I'd like to get a win over him to prove I can do it. Regardless of that, I think there is little point in rematches unless they are for a title. So if it's for a title, yes, I'd fight Snead again.

Q: Former GAMMA champ Gunnar Steigelmann introduced you to the GAMMA super heavyweight division with a KO loss. Do you think he has what it takes to regain the title, he fights against current champ Patrick Bateman next week.

A: Steigelmann is capable of beating any superheavyweight on any given night, but so is Bateman. It should be a great fight. I plan on working my way up into contention and fighting for the 265+ and/or 265 pound title soon.
