Peeling back the layers with "Peel Steel"

Editorial by

Peeling back the layers, with Peel Steel, creator of "Immortals New York".

An interview with Dean Holliday

Dean Holliday: Peel, how long have you been involved in MMATycoon?
Since August 2011, as I was previously a manager on the web league boxing game, vivi, which crashed and burned. Boxing was my first love, having seen Lennox Lewis defeat Razor Ruddock at Earls Court, Lewis fight Bruno in Cardiff, Tyson fight Francis in Manchester. However, my greatest experience was the Thomas & Mack Centre in Vegas, when I saw Lewis beat Tucker, but the undercard contained McLellan versus Jackson, which was an awesome war, and the great Julio Cesar Chavez beat Terence Ali. After my career in boxing management came to end, and my interest in MMA was growing through the UFC being televised in the UK, I saw a forum recommending MMA Tycoon.

I started, and promptly got my ass kicked, went 2-9 and then our camp slowly turned it around.
I am at best average now, by reading the forum and liaising with alliance mates you can learn so much. We have won 3 org titles, so we do OK, but I have only bettered a top manager on one occasion, and even then I had help from one of his peers, in what i would describe as the elite group of managers. Even then we had to get lucky, and did, with less than one minute left in the 5th round.

Dean Holliday: How many ventures are you currently involved with?
I run the Immortals New York org for 150k + ID fighters, although the 265+ is 170k, and the 135lbers are 190k +.
I also run the Immortals Casino, so our guys can have a bet on Immortals fights and UFC fights, but that is a loss making venture purely to enhance the Immortals experience.  There is talk of a new Immortals org with Bruno Falcone being at the helm, but it is only talk at the moment.

Dean Holliday: Your org, INY or Immortals New York, is based in NY of course, why the Big Apple?
Not sure really, in boxing I managed in the USA North East, and just fancied New York, and the restaurants are great. Although I dont live in England, I am English, and its nice to get away and work in New York. So I am pretty much settled here, and some of our alliance are British and have guys fighting in New York, so its a truly cosmopolitan set up.

Dean Holliday: INY has been rapidly climbing the New York org system and really making a name for itself, what do you think INY has to offer compared to other New York org's?
Our managers, and their contributions to the smack forum, the role play, the previews and the interviews. We have the most posts and views, which says it all.

We also offer fair fights, based primarily on ID until fighters become real contenders, and then they have to mix it with the big boys.

In summary its the all round experience, fair fights you might think you can win, previews, smack, the casino updates, all of which we are proud of. Too many orgs tell the world how they will do this and do that, and then dont even have a poster, never mind previews and interviews. They are just money making ventures so the manager can then close it and open their own private super gym, and pulverise guys. Each to their own, but they are denying managers who havent seen what we can offer, a far more rewarding experience that makes the game better, keeps managers interested and ensures revenue keeps coming in for future development.
Dean Holliday: Do you have any suggestions or advice for rookies who are looking for an org or a contract?
Yeh, dont sign just because you get offered a load of money.
Look at the orgs roster, and the age of the fighters and see that there are guys for you to fight of a similar standard. There is no point signing to get battered.

Also look if there is an ID restriction, that usually helps.
Have a look if they have a forum for previews and reviews, you could be missing out if they dont.
Finally, if you are new to the game then make sure you sign for an org in a location where your fighter is based, because travel costs and energy hits travelling will hurt you more.
Dean Holliday: Where do you look to take INY, and how will you get there?
We want to be the best 150k id org in Tycoon, we already offer the best experience, but its very competitive. We have some great champions and some fantastic contenders, but I have noticed recently that some of the big name managers like to stick their guys with good records in orgs where they are the big fish. I have no qualms about managers sending their guys to Four Kings or Eternal Rivals, who I have great respect for, but some of the decisions supposed top managers make, are tantamount to cowardice. They only damage the org to which they sign, because they will put off younger fighters wanting to establish their careers there.
Are there any current projects that fighters out there should be aware of?
The 135lb combat league, is for 190k id 18/19 year old creations, with two teams, managed by two experienced managers. Four rounds of fights, with the winning teams managers sharing $100,000 (10k Each). After that $150,000 is split between the fighters according to final ranking. The top four square off in a semi and final to determine the new champ.
Team places are still open, so we are looking for 18 or 19 year old 135lbers with an ID of 190+.
Get in touch for a contract.

hat's it, thanks to Peel Steel for a terrific interview...this is Dean Holliday, and I'll see YOU at the fights!
