ALWC 18 Nelson vs. Escobar

Slick Steve here excited to bring you the preview for this huge event. In just our 18th event ALWC will be going to pay per view. This event of champions, up and comers, bruisers, technicians, and violence will take place at The Beer Garden in Amsterdam on August 8th.

The Main Event:

Jake “The Spider” Nelson vs. Pablo “The Fiend” Escobar for the Bantamweight championship

Jake Nelson 20-4 (4-0 ALWC) 13 knockouts

10 Main Events, 13 title fights, 6 fight of the night awards, and 1 knockout of the night.

During his career Jake has been a champion in 3 fight organizations and 2 different weight classes. He has fought some talented fighters and some beasts and defeated most of them. In 24 fights he has never been finished. He is on a 7 fight win streak and currently the #4 bantam in Amsterdam. He is a ferocious wrestler with a brown belt in BJJ. He has great takedowns and his ground and pound can end the contest in a heartbeat once he gets rolling. His standup game is much improved; he has fought well on his feet in his most recent fights with a good balance of boxing and M/T. A win against Escobar would be a big win in his climb to become the best in the world at 135. Even with his improved striking he will likely try and bring this fight to the ground and keep control of the pace.

Pablo Escobar 13-4 (1-0 ALWC) 13 knockouts

1 Main Events, 2 title fights, 2 fight of the night awards, and 2 knockout of the nights.

Pablo is a mean man. He wins one way and one way only, and that is by knockout. He hits hard and does not need to land a ton of shots to do the job. 10 of his knockouts were in the 1st round so this guy does not waste time. He will likely be looking to finish the fight fast against an experienced grinder like Nelson, but really I think he plans to do so against anyone he sees in the cage. Pablo is new to the ALWC, but he came in with a reputation and made his ability clear to everyone with an impressive knockout against Felipe Costa. The fans love his style as he is the most popular Bantam in Amsterdam and 6th in the world. He is also currently the #5 ranked fighter in Amsterdam.

Co-Main Event:

Allen “The King” Iverson vs. “Lieutenant” Aldo Raine for the Lightweight championship

Allen Iverson 17-5 (4-1 ALWC) 17 knockouts

6 Main Events, 7 title fights, 2 fight of the night awards, and 6 knockout of the nights.

Allen is looking for his 3rd successful title defense, his last one coming against Frank Killer. Allen is a world class boxer complimented with a dangerous clinch game. His ground game is improving all the time but still shows a weakness that can be exploited. He is on a 4 fight wins streak that includes a victory over the challenger Raine. He will avoid the ground with every ounce of will he can muster and stay on his feet where he is “King”. He is currently ranked 8th among LW’s in Amsterdam and a win here would likely take him a couple more steps up the ladder. He is arrogant but it seems to fit the fans well as he is the most popular LW in Amsterdam and 9th in the world.

Aldo Raine 17-7 (4-1 ALWC) 2 knockouts and 3 submission victories

3 Main Events, 9 title fights, and 5 fight of the night awards.

Aldo has held titles in 4 different organizations. He has fought a wide variety of talented fighters including his latest wins over Volk Khan and Sparka Man. He has a solid all around game and can either stand and box with Iverson, bring it to the clinch, or take it to the ground. Aldo has many options in this matchup and may have a great opportunity to control the pace of this fight. Since losing his title to Iverson he has looked very good and looks more than capable of dethroning the “King”.

The rest of the Main Card:

Sam “The Buzzsaw” Benton 27-5-1 (new) vs. Villi Kotobalavu 26-10-2 (new) Lightweight division

These two newcomers to ALWC look to add even more depth to a solid LW division. Benton is a submission specialist that boasts a resume with 21 submission wins. His standup game is not too shabby either. Benton is coming in after a long break from fighting after a legendary run at the former promotion Bar Fights. Villi he an incredibly well rounded fighter with an excellent defensive game on the ground and a dangerously balanced standup skill set. He has won 5 of his last 7 fights and a win here would put him on the road for a title shot here at ALWC.

Mike Brunner 11-6 (3-1 ALWC) vs. “Spicy” General Tso 21-14 (3-2) Bantamweight division

This is a long coming rematch between two awesome competitors. They faced off almost a year ago in the former fight organization WCP. Tso won the last face off but I don’t think that fazes Brunner in the least. Brunner has won 4 of his last 5 with his only loss to Jake Nelson in a recent title shot. Brunner can box well, and his ground game is solid. Tso has won 10 of his last 12 fights with both losses coming from Jake Nelson as well. Tso is world class wrestler who usually likes to take his chances in the standup. We will see if you stays with his standup techniques or try to take it to the ground.

“The Mighty’ Qing Kong 16-4 (1-0) ALWC vs. Josh “Big Punisher” Michaels 18-2-1 (new)

Kong is coming off a quick and impressive destruction of Sparka Man. A win here could throw in right into title contention. His standup is world class and his ground game is solid enough to keep him out of trouble. Look for Kong to try and end this one early. Michaels has a good balanced game but looks to be outmatched on his feet so we will probably see him try to take this to the ground. Josh is an exciting addition to the LW division coming off 6 straight wins. This fight will be exciting.
