DSOF 1 Preview

Editorial by Gary Chesterfield

Dutch Series of Fighting 1

DSOF brings you its first event from Micro Arena in Amsterdam.

Under Card:

David Schuler v Shamil “The Cobra” Gasanov

The first fight of the night is pretty evenly matched. They are both 18 years of age and have almost the same skills. The only difference is Schuler is slightly advantaged in Muay Thai and Gasanov, though he has the same belt, most likely has better BJJ. Schuler is 1-0 in QFC. Gasanov is 3-1 in QFC.

Prediction: I see this fight going to the ground, so I assume Gasanov will use his experience and slight advantage on the ground to get the win. Shamil Gasanov – Sumbission (RNC) – Round 1.

Achmed “Axeman” Khan v Armand Holtz

This Light Heavyweight Fight is not as evenly matched. While this will be the pro debut for both fighters, Khan’s three year advantage in age will make a huge difference. While Holtz is more well-rounded, Khan will look to his advantage in both wrestling and Muay Thai to control the fight.

Prediction: Khan will get the win with relative ease. Achmed Khan – KO (Punch) – Round 1.

Jose Cortez v “Iron” Trevor Folton

Both fighters are making their MMA debut and are 18 years old. Trevor Folton has a large advantage in wrestling and a slight one in boxing. If this fight does go to the ground, look for Cortez to keep it there and try to submit Folton with his far superior BJJ.

Prediction: I think Folton will keep this fight standing and use his abysmal, but not useless, boxing to beat Cortez. Trevor Folton – TKO (punches) – Round 2.

Dmitri “Paste” Petrovich v Curtis Hodge

Both of these fighters are Muay Thai fighters with defensive wrestling. Not much to base a prediction off of since they are both making a debut at DSOF 1.

Prediction: Because this fight will most stay standing and Petrovich has better Muay Thai, I see him taking home the victory. Dmitri Petrovich – TKO (Punches) – Round 1.

Main Card:

Jayden Jacobs v Pablo Ramon “Secret Weapon” Sanchez

Jacobs is a classic sprawl and Brawl fighter. Sanchez is a Muay Thai specialst with respectable wrestling. We will see which is better in this fight; boxing or Muay Thai.

Prediction: I think because Jacobs is more focused on protecting takedowns in his skills, Sanchez will have a slight advantage standing up. I think he will take some time, but will end up winning. Pablo Ramon Sanchez – TKO (Punches) – Round 2.

Dante “Stretch” Robinson v John “The Hooligan” Braddock

Stretch is experienced in Muay Thai and wrestling; The Hooligan in boxing and wrestling. The former will most likely want to take the fight into the clinch and cause some damage there. The latter will probably want to keep it on the outside and inflict damage with his jabs and hooks.

Prediction: I think The Hooligan will be better on the outside, but also in the clinch because of his better wrestling. I think that he will control the fight wherever it goes. John Braddock – TKO (Punches) – Round 2.

Melon Frogg v Pete “Wheelie” Wheeler

This is a classic fight between an all standup fighter in Melon Frogg and a pure ground fighter in Pete Wheeler. Wheeler will obviously be trying to take this to the ground for either some ground n’ pound or submission work. Frogg will be doing whatever he can to keep the fight standing.

Prediction: I think that if Melon Frogg can’t finish Pete Wheeler, Wheelie will take it to the ground and finish quickly with either a submission or a beat down. Pete Wheeler – Submission (Kimura) – Round 1.

Carlitos Mendez v. Reese “Big Toe” Worthington

This fight will definitely be staying on the feet. Worthington will be solely relying upon his Muay Thai, while Mendez will be looking to utilize both his boxing and Muay Thai Skills. I think these guys will come out swinging and that it will be determined just on who hits hard first.

Prediction: To be completely honest, I am only saying that Mendez will win because he is my fighter. Hopefully, I’m not just getting my hopes up. Carlitos Mendez – KO (Punch) – Round 1.

Co-Main Event:

Orange “Stranglehold” Crush v Kenny “K-Man” Kawaguchi

These two fighters are once again evenly matched. I don’t have much to say about this fight because Kawaguchi’s skills are more focused on beating someone up than keeping the fight standing and Crush’s skills vice versa.

Prediction: Because of this difference. I see K-Man pulling out the victory. Kenny Kawaguchi – TKO (Punches) – Round 1.

Speed “Coproducer” Weed v Amir “Sticks” Khan

Weed will be looking to get this to the ground and most likely get some elbows and punches in there. Khan will look to keep it standing, either in the clinch or not, and put out some damage there. If Weed doesn’t get it to the ground quickly, it could be over right away. If he does get it to the ground it could also be a quick fight. Either way, I don’t see this going out of the first round.

Prediction: I think Sticks will be able to keep this fight standing just long enough to put down a major beating. Amir Khan – KO (Punch) – Round 1.
