WKBC: Super Series 5: (REVIEW)

Editorial by Sam McCarthy

        WKBC: Super Series 5: (REVIEW)

And just like that, i am back again guys (and i won't be surprised if some of you lot would want to kick my ass by now, after the sly digs i had on your fighters, but anyways) with the review of yet another one of the highly anticipated events in WKBC (all of you guys's reaction to my statement=     ). Okay-okay now, i know, i might have gone too far with the "highly anticipated" stuff, but hey, this was still a very good event to watch out for. But, tell you what, yesterday, did not really disappoint a lot of people at all, to be honest, as most of the fighters who were expected to win their respective matches (in the pre-match prediction), did indeed end up winning their fights (i am the prediction master! i.e. a genius Lol). And hence, all in all, it ended up being a very good event overall. But, there was a lot of small moments in every fights, which could have very well meant that, the winner of the fight could well have been a the other fighter, and therefore, to see what are all the incidents that transpired in these fights and much more, join me below, and let's get this review started..

FIGHT 1.

Filip "The Croat" Mirkovic vs Anton "The Weirdo" Ibarra (FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT [145 LBS])

The first fight of the evening went about exactly as it was predicted to be, with Ibarra absolutely dominated this one from start to finish, and boy! what a finish it was, hence, let's take a detailed look at the fight to see what are the pointers we can take from this fight about how both the fighters approach their matches.

Round 1: So round 1 started off with, Ibarra straight away being ultra-aggressive in the standup, as he threw some very good punches and also some legkicks to add to it. But then, the move that pretty much sealed the deal for Ibarra, in this round, was that he took the fight into a clinch, off the back of some very good strikes, and never let go. He absolutely bossed the entire fight from there on, as he hit some absolutely devilish body shots as well as crazy amount of head strikes from the clinch position with one of those head stikes rocking Mirkovic and hurting him bad,but credit to Mirkovic here, as he recovered pretty well from that strike after a bit (although, for his sake, he should have acted up that he got KO' ed), and then, after a few more hooks and body shots, round 1 came to a close.

Round 2:  Now, round 2 began exactly, as round 1 had, to be honest, with Ibarra throwing a perfect liver shot, which landed right on the money, and that, really set the tone for the rest of the round, as not long after, he took this fight to a clinch once again, and started unloading at Mirkovic with all sorts of strikes (uppercut, hooks, jabs, and what not).He continued his attack on mirkovic until, one of his short shots, snapped mirkovic's head back , and then, Ibarra, sensing blood, threw a massive uppercut, which knocked Mirkovic out cold in the middle of the cage. And thus, with Mirkovic unable to continue, the referee brought an end to the fight.

FIGHT 2.

Valdeci "THE MILK MONSTER" Sobrinho Campos vs Skinny "Tessin" Arse (FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT [145 LBS])

As i said before, i have become quite the master in predicting fights, and that ability of mine (apologies for hyping myself up, but i can't help it, as i have got most of my predictions right for the first time in a while, Lol), was on full show in this fight too, because as predicted, Sobrinho Campos, being the overall better standup fighter that he is, ended up bossing the enirity of the match. But all the major incidents and the takeaways from this fight, will only be known, if you look below. So join me and have a look.

Round 1: Round 1 started off with Sobrinho Campos smashing the living hell out of Arse, with some nasty combination of leg kicks and uppercuts. Then, after that, Arse seemed to get some sort of a grip in the contest, as he then did the one thing he knows best, that is to take this fight into a clinch. But, unfortunately for him, Campos (as said above) was the overall better standup fighter among the two and hence, he just simply broke off the clinch without even so much so as breaking a sweat, and then continued to assert his dominance in the match with some more clinical and precise striking, that had Arse, backtrack for most of the remaining part of the round. But, then again, Arse was never going to go away without a fight, and hence he tried to take this fight into a clinch one more time, but once again, the same thing happened, which was that Campos broke off the clinch easily and continued his striking from a range (i.e Campos became a boxer). And that is how the fight went on, until the ref stopped the fight to signal the end of the first round.

Round 2: Well, since i pretty much gave a long enough description of the fight in round 1, hence i wouldn't say much about round 2, cause frankly speaking, round 2 was nothing more than a instant replay of round 1, with Arse trying his same old tactic of clinching unsuccessfully, and Campos, well, he continued his beatdown and annihilation of Arse. So that is how, round 2 ended.

Round 3. Well, make that 2 instant replays, but, but, but, an incident did indeed take place in this round, as just after Arse had taken this fight to a clinch (once again), he was sliced open via a devilish elbow strike from Campos. But after that, everything was pretty normal, until the end of the fight. Although, i did notice a lot of good head movement from Campos (that i forgot to mention in the previous rounds), which helped him avoid a lot of strikes and in the end win the fight.

~ RESULT: VALDECI SOBRINHO CAMPOS WINS VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (ROUND 3)

FIGHT 3.

"The Brick" Daewoo Lanos vs Eduardo "The Mexican Masochist" Estevez (FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT [145 LBS])

I will hold my hands up for this one, cause i said it, I SAID IT! that Lanos does not have KO power. But hey, nobody could be correct with everything right?

So, i accept that i was wrong, cause oh my my! Lanos has definitely got some KO power, and that was on full effect in this fight, But to know more about what transpired in the fight (you guys know the drill now), have a look below..

Round 1: So, round 1 of this fight, surprisingly started with Estevez being a lot more aggressive than his opponent in the standup, and actually trying to throw caution to the wind, in hopes of securing a KO, but alas! nothing really happened in that period, other than Lanos blocking some strikes and Estevez swinging wildly and missing with the other strikes. Then, Estevez, shockingly! took this fight into a clinch, and well, when you do dumb things like that, then you will get punished at this level unfortunately. Hence, this fight was no different, as Lanos took complete control of this fight, as soon as it became a Muay Thai contest (as Lanos is clearly the much superior Muay thai fighter), and then never really let his momentum fall, as he started hitting Estevez with all sorts of elbow and knee strikes and also some uppercuts from time to time in the clinch. Then, although Estevez did end up breaking the clinch, but, he soon reengaged in the clinch, and got dominated by Lanos for the rest of the round.

Round 2:  Round two, started off, with the same dumb move by Estevez, as he took this fight back into a clinch, and then the usual stuff kicked on once again, as Lanos, once again, started to dominate the fight from the clinch position, as he threw some good combinations as well as some head strikes and punches to the body too, until, a short uppercut, rocked Estevez and gave Lanos, the invitation (that he was looking for) of finishing this match early. Therefore, Lanos wasted no time in upping the level of aggression, and started throwing all kinds of strikes in his armory (i think he pretty much used all of them), and that, bore fruit a short while later, as a stinging uppercut from Lanos, Knocked Estevez down once and for all, which resulted in the referee calling this fight and thus ending it.

~ RESULT: DAEWOO LANOS WINS VIA TKO ([2 MIN 29 SEC] ROUND 2)

FIGHT 4:

"The Punisher" Purjo Pekka Koistinen vs Sagat "Tigerstyle" Petchyindee (FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT [145 LBS])

Now, tell you what, i really underestimated Koistinen big time, cause he absolutely bossed this fight from start to finish. What i really loved about Koistinen, was that he backs his own abilities, without worrying too much about his opponents skillsets, and that, is what got him the win in this fight, because, if he would have been concerned about his opponents strengths, then he would never have taken this fight to a clinch (as Koistinen has a much weaker Muay Thai of the two), but that is why we all say that "FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE", and boy did it not favour Koistinen is this fight. But anyways, after all that, let's now take a much detailed look at the fight below...

Round 1: This fight started off with Koistinen, taking this fight into a clinch, and from there on, he just smashed every part in Sagat's body, and continued to do so for the whole of the round. But, we got some more things to be proud of regarding Koistinen, as not only did he punched the living hell out of Sagat in a clinch, but he also, blocked everything (meaning all kinds of strikes from Sagat) that Sagat had to offer in a clinch, which obviously demoralized his opponent to a high extent, and then threw some of his own strikes (knees, lefts and rights, hooks, head punches and what not) in response, and hence with that, round 1 came to a close.

Round 2:  If you though round 1 was demoralising for Sagat, well, then round was where you will witness a demoralised Sagat x2, as once again, Koistinen took this fight into a clinch right at the start of the round, and never let go until the final seconds of the round, but that was too little too late from Sagat unfortunately. But unlike the first round, where he did not even try to break off from the clinch, Sagat did try very hard to break the clinch in this round so that he can make this fight a boxing match (so credit to him for changing tactics mid-fight), but unfortunately for him, Koistinen was having none of it, as he continued his onslaught on Sagat for the remaining part of the round with a variety of stikes, until Sagat finally managed to break the clinch, but almost as soon as he did it, the ref signalled for the end of round number 2.

Round 3:  By the time round 3 came about, Koistinen's confidence level was at it's peak, and hence, he wanted to try and finish this fight early, so as soon as he got this fight back into a clinch, he unloaded on Sagat once again, but there was one very noticeable difference in his approach to this round, as Koistinen was throwing his strikes with much more venom than before, and hence, when he landed a short right hand to Sagat's head, Sagat got rocked and hurt bad, as his legs became wobbly, and he was all over the place, therefore ,Koistinen, sensing the vulnerabilities of his opponent, went in for the kill and landed a massive "tiger uppercut", on Sagat which was straight out of the street fights, that knocked Sagat out cold, and thus ended the fight in the process.

~ PREDICTION: PURJO PEKKA KOISTINEN WINS VIA TKO ([1 MIN 21 SEC] ROUND 3)

FIGHT 5:

Jacobo "El Toro Loco" Fonseca vs "The Destroyer" Muhammad Jaraya (FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT [145 LBS])

Now, this fight, went nothing like how i had imagined it one bit (if i am completely honest), because, as the much weaker overall standup fighter, i simply did not see Fonseca bossing the fight in the clinch, like the way he did. But, we gotta give the man the credit when it's due right, and hence i would say, that was the most intelligent and street-smart type, i have ever seen Fonseca fight, as he was simply brilliant with his decision making on when to attack and when to absorb, and that, ladies and gents, is what got him the result, that he deserved. Hence, let's take a detailed look at the fight below, to see what are the exact, major incidents that took place in this fight, but to do that, have a look below...

Round 1: Round 1 started off with Fonseca, to everyone's disbelief, starting off in ultra-aggressive and ultra-offensive mode, as he threw constant leg kicks on Jaraya, for almost the entire first minute (although not many connected). Then, just after a moment when Jaraya seemingly started to find his range and connect with some good jabs, Fonseca, took this fight into a clinch, and from there on, completely dominated the fight, as he threw some very good strikes (short shot, lefts and rights, hooks, jabs, and most importantly some very good looking body shots) which at the end of the round, came in very handy, as that flurry of strikes in the clinch, meant that Fonseca had very comfortably, won the first round.

Round 2: The story of round 2 though, was very-very different, as right from the start of this round, Jaraya looked in complete control of what he was doing. He suddenly found his range of striking back once again, and therefore as soon as he got his range right, Jaraya started to unload on Fonseca with some outstanding striking on display, that included jabs, hooks, leg kicks, body shots, head punch, and much-much more. All this continued for the majority of this round, until Fonseca sid enough is enough and took this fight back into a clinch. From there on, Fonseca did come back strong in the round, but unfortunately for him, the damage had already been done. And hence, when the ref signalled the end of the round, i don't think even Fonseca himself would have had any problem with the judges giving the round to Jaraya.

Round 3: This match, was a roller coaster of an affair, between the two fighters, as the balance of the match shifted from one fighter to the other in almost every round, and therefore continuing that particular trend, Fonseca took back control of this fight once again, as he clinched with Jaraya right at the start of the final round, and from there on, only one guy looked like winning this fight (my honest opinion), and that was Fonseca, because as soon as he turned this fight back into a Muay Thai contest, then once again, he started to dominate the fight with a flurry of strikes on his opponent. But credit to Jaraya though, as he managed to break the clinch and get some good strikes of his own, in on Fonseca for a brief period of time, but then again, Fonseca got the clinch back in, and started to smash Jaraya once again. And with that, the fight came to a close, with Fonseca deservedly winning this bout on pure heart (to come back from losing round 2) and performance.

FIGHT 6:

Schmedgar "No Friends" Dimms vs "The Butcher Of Rostov" Andrei Chikatilo (FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT [145 LBS])

And it's time to praise my predicting skills once again, cause tell you what, this fight, went exactly as i had said so in the preview, because from the moment this fight went into a clinch, Chikatilo had no answer to Dimms's striking and aggression, which in the end, resulted in a performance, that Chikatilo would definitely not want to remember for a long time, whatsoever. But on the other end, Dimms, will want to remember, as well as repeat this performance, over and over and over again! So now, let's take a closer look at what exactly happened in this fight, for you guys to understand, why i am so happy about my predictions that i had made pre-fight.

But to do that, take a look below...

Now for this fight, rounds 1, 2 and 3, played out more or less, or better yet, exactly the same way, and hence, i would be putting all the important incidents and moments from the fight in a single paragraph, as making 3 paragraphs of repeated sentences would really not sound good.

Round 1,2,3: So this fight, started off with Dimms pretty much straight away, taking this fight into a clinch, and from there on, he just simply did not let go. He then started working on the head and the body of Chikatilo with some precision, as he pretty much nailed most of his strikes from that clinch to absolute perfection. But, the most eye-catching stuff that Dimms did do in the entirity of that fight, is that he controlled Chikatilo throughout the 3 rounds using his much superior wrestling skills, as every time Chikatilo would look to break free, Dimms would just shut the door by squeezing him up against the cage, and also throw a massive amount of strikes, be it uppercuts, body punches, head strikes, or whatever. This was everything that happened in round 1, but, round 2 and 3 was just like watching the same movie on repeat mode, as other than a few nasty body shots from Dimms, which seemed to crack chikatilo, there was nothing different that happened in round 2. And as far as round 3 is concerned, well, something different did happen, but it was all a little too late, as after a stinging hook from Dimms, Chikatilo did look slightly hurt, and therefore Dimms, in the dying seconds of the fight, did indeed try to look for a finish, but alas! he ran out of time and the fight came to a close with Dimms, deservedly winning the bout and winning it pretty comfortably in the end.

~ RESULT: SCHMEDGAR DIMMS WINS VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (ROUND 3)

(MAIN EVENT)

FIGHT 7:

Charlie "Osage" River vs Juan "Eski" Escobar (FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT [145 LBS])

Now the main event of the evening, did indeed pan out exactly the way it was supposed to if i completely honest, cause we all knew, that River was always going to be much better in the clinch, as he has decent wrestling skills to combine with his much inferior Muay Thai (when compared to his opponent), which when combined together, makes him a very a formidable fighter when the matchups goes into a clinch, as he can control the opponent with his wrestling and hurt his opponent with his Muay Thai striking. And as far as his opponent is concerned, well, Escobar did indeed have the better Muay Thai and boxing skills overall, and hence, he dominated this fight, as soon as it became a boxing match (that was expected too), but to everyone's surprise, got dominated in a clinch, even though he is the much better Muay Thai fighter. Therefore, to know how all that unfolded in this fight, take a look below..

Round 1: This fight started off with both the fighters going hammer and tons, trying to get an early stoppage through various types of strikes and kicks and punches, with no real results in the end. But, the complexity of this match changed completely, as soon as River took this fight into a clinch, as it was clearly evident, Escobar did not really want to stay in that position, and hence, he put all his focus on breaking free from that clinch (which never happened), whereas River continued his onslaught and flurry of strikes in the clinch, which continued for the rest of the round, resulting in River getting an easy round under his belt.

Round 2: The following round was not much different either, as we could easily see that whenever the match turned into a boxing match, with both fighters striking from range, then Escobar was bossing it, but then when this fight went into a clinch, which happened again after a short while in the second round, Escobar had no answer to the striking of River. So, that is how round 2 also came to a close, with River getting another round under his belt (pretty much confirming his win, if the fight went into the judges hand).

Round 3: The final round was an absolute treat for all the supporters watching the fight, cause both of them simply let loose in this round, with both R
