WCF Wednesday Night Fights 9: Leahy vs Shamrock Preview and Predictions

Undercard

155lb Bout: Andrew Perez (2-1) vs Tommy Ayomy (0-0)

Opening up the night is two new arrivals to WCF. Andrew Perez is the more experienced fight coming of a 1-1 sting in SMASH while Ayomy is making his professional debut. Both guys have very similar skillsets with both wanting to grapple. Perez has the edge in BJJ owning a purple belt but Ayomy has the advantage when it comes to wrestling. I expect this to be a grappling match with both fighters being even on the feet. I expect Ayomy to score a takedown early, but Perez will threaten with submissions as both of his pro wins have come via submission.

Prediction: Andrew Perez by 1st round Sub

135lb Bout: Alessio Da Santiago (7-9) vs Wesley Carter (1-3)

The first of 3 bantamweight fights on the card features WCF vet Alessio Da Santiago. ADS has the most fights (12) of all time in WCF and he is trying break back into the win column following a TKO loss from the tough Denis Denisov. He is facing Wesley Carter who is trying to stop a 3-fight skid and earn his first win in WCF. This is a rematch from earlier this year which saw ADS win by 1st round sub. If this fight ends up hitting the canvas I expect it to go the same route.

Prediction: Alessio Da Santiago by 2nd round Sub

135lb Bout: Levi Rowan (5-0) vs Dragon Li Chai (0-0) (3-7 grappling)

An interesting bantamweight bout caps off our undercard as the featured headliner. One of the most quietly successful fighters in all of WCF, Levi Rowan, welcomes newcomer Dragon Li Chai to the organization. Rowan has amassed a 4-0 record in WCF including 2 impressive wins over Maddox Pope. Li Chai could give Rowan his toughest fight yet. While just making his MMA debut, DLC has experience against high-level grapplers in TWGC and CACC against many fighters who outsizes him. Despite Rowan’s respectable wrestling this is a pure striker vs grappler matchup thanks to DLC’s elite grappling and Rowan’s clear advantage on the feet. If Rowan can keep it standing he may very well get the first finish of his career, but I have a feeling Dragon Li Chai will be the first to have success getting Rowan to the mat. I have a feeling the underdog will pull it off.

Prediction: Dragon Li Chai by 1st round Finish (Sub or GnP)

Main Card

170lb Bout: Rammsie Hartmann (5-3) vs Alex Wright (2-0)

Opening up the main card is the return of Rammsie Hartmann. He is trying to bounce back following his submission loss to Kribbson Diaz. Hartmann gets to welcome young prospect Alex Wright to the organization. Hartmann should have the advantage on the feet and in the wrestling department, but he has to be careful of Wright’s BJJ which has led him to two submission wins. Hartmann has never went the distance so expect a finish in this one. Wright’s only real path to victory will be via submission but I expect Hartmann to keep it standing while maybe mixing in a few level changes with his dominant wrestling.

Prediction: Hartmann via 1st round KO

145lb Bout: Colton Ortiz (2-1) vs Harry Hendersons (2-2) (2-6 grappling record)

Colton Ortiz returns on Wednesday to face fellow grappler Harry Hendersons. Ortiz is now 2-1 in WCF with impressive wins over WCF veteran Justin Purcell and Benito Rummy. His only loss isn’t a bad one necessarily with it coming by the hands of current WCF Featherweight Champion Bardia Farrokhzad. Hendersons on the other hand will being making his debut but isn’t short on experience with 1-1 stints in both Madness MMA and Smash as well as an 8-fight grappling career in CACC. Both men are pure specialists who’s game plans are completely grappling oriented so it should be interesting to see how it goes. Ortiz does have a leg up with a brown belt in BJJ compared to Hendersons purple belt. Ortiz will also have a near 8-inch height advantage.

Prediction: Colton Ortiz via Decision

135lb Bout: Claus Haba (5-0-1) vs Jens Jensen (2-1)

This is a pivotal bout in the bantamweight division which could determine the next title contender. Once again we see two guys who have a grappling based game. This card is filled with great grapplers and the fight is no exception. Both these guys will be making their promotional debut. Haba is coming off a great run in RRFC going undefeated with his only blemish being a majority draw against a tough vet. Jensen on the other hand is fresh off a performance of the night win in SMASH where he went 1-1. As I’ve mentioned multiple times both guys usually want to grapple but it’ll be interesting to see if their game plans change in this bout. While both fighters are evenly matched I would give the slight edge to Haba in most areas. Both fighters always common in well below the bantamweight limit but “The Little Giant” Jensen will have a huge height advantage with over a 10.5-inch height deficit in his favor.

Prediction: Claus Haba via Decision

265lb Co-Main Event: Tylonal Jones (5-4) vs Fish Hands (8-3)

This is a Co-Main Event that should feature fireworks being one of the few bouts on the card with two guys who love to let their hands go. Jones has become a regular of the WCF heavyweight division fighting a number of the well-established names within the organization. He is riding a two-fight KO win streak against Pimpis Tramps and perennial top-contender Fedor Petrov while earning performance bonuses in both fights. Hands made his presence known in his debut knocking out Rashad Pennington after a decent 4-3 run in Madness MMA. This should be a great fight and is one of the hardest to pick on the card.

Prediction: Fish Hands by 2nd round KO

185lb Main Event: Robert Leahy (9-2)  vs Tim Shamrock (2-2)

The main event once again will be a fight between two guys that are used to having the grappling advantage. This bout may very well make a contender at middleweight out of the winner. Leahy is undefeated in WCF at 2-0 and is looking to continue it. Shamrock on the is another Madness MMA vet making his WCF debut. While both are evenly matched on the ground Shamrock should have the edge on the feet if he chooses to keep it there.

Prediction: Robert Leahy via 1st round Sub
