CFC 454 Preview

Event Preview: CFC 454: Fire v IsMore
Canadian Fighting Championship
2022-01-21, Sydney, Sydney Superdome
Author:Dead Disney

Yes, old skoolers, Cause is back on the scene after a lengthy, family-oriented hiatus that’s kept me away from MMATycoon and lack of free time that’s prevented me from sharing the legendary write-up skills even longer (Editors note; grandiose proclamations are the writer’s only). casting that aside, I’ve decided to get on board the good ship CFC, since I considered the original owner, Matt Mac, a friend here and am glad to help further the legacy he created. Then there’s the fact current honcho Dead Disney has been a great guy who’s doing all the right things to promote his fighters and the game and could use a prognosticating herald like me to help get the word out there.

My first assignment was to be a review of a recent card but things hit the fan at home for a stretch and then it hit me; I’d much rather hype the fights to come than report on what happened once the dust settled. the boss may not be thrilled with me making an arbitrary, executive decision but hey, I’m working for free, so you get what you pay for, lol! now on to the pending action…

CFC 454 Preview

(overall record/CFC record)

HW More "The Hungarian Giant" IsMore (33-11/3-1) vs. Spinning "Double Elixer" Fire (18-6/2-0)

The first thought is; whoever wins this fight is still going to be stuck with a bad name, though at least they compensate with decent monikers. former Champ, “The Giant” has really exemplified the consistent winning professional throughout his prodigious career, with the losses being more blips than trends. “The Elixer” (hard time saying their names) on the other hand, may not have the resume but certainly rides a wave of momentum since signing on with the org, having stopped both his worthy opponents via brutal ground and pound. to me, this one is going to come down to how well the Hungarian’s physicals have held up over the years; if he’s anywhere near as agile as ever, I’ll side with his experience and skill set all day. however, there are no guarantees at age 36 so the exclusive Bookmaker for CFC, A Good Cause, is going to hedge their bets here: IsMore -146 / Fire +119.

LHW Sammy "Miami" Beach (17-13/1-0) vs. "Do It Right The 1st Time" Mike Holmes Jr (25-18/2-2)

Couldn’t ask for a more auspicious debut than Sammy Beach’s with CFC, where he survived wrestling guru, Jan Sobieski’s T/D late in the 1st and took his LHW title early in the 2nd with a classic knockdown/beatdown that had them dancing in the streets of Miami. he may have had a rough ride in the Stoner Fight League, losing more than he won, and wow, all but one of the 7 L’s was via submission. so there’s the elder son of Canada’s renovation kingpin (and not a bad fighter way back when) waiting on the other side of the cage with 12 wins via tap out under his belt. hmm, sounds like a recipe for another one-and-done LHW Champ… unless Beach can keep it on the feet or survive the grappling assault. which A Good Cause believes he will, building on (no pun intended) Junior’s 10 career KO/L list: Beach -173 / Holmes +140

MW Donnie "No Fear" Larkin (20-9/0-0) vs. Andor Kovacs (10-6/1-1)

opening up the keys of the card are two top-10 MW’s looking to establish themselves as serious threats for the vacated title. “No Fear” Larkin is making his org debut after a hype-killing stint in Synchronicity that left him rethinking everything. after working with Abu Giran, one of the most renowned sports psychologists in MMA, and switching his training camp to higher altitudes, he left Syn on a positive note and looks to keep that ball rolling right over the always game, Kovacs, who’s had much better results in MMA than KT. he loses by decision and wins via KO; my kinda fighter but if he can’t keep this one standing, Larkin’s ground game will win the day. your friendly, neighbourhood Bookmaker says Larkin +124 / Kovacs -153.

Rapid-fire thoughts and odds on the rest of the event:

WW Ivan "Snurri" Andrianov (12-9/0-2) vs. Samuel "The Sandman" Hardaway (11-4/2-0)

uhhh… you shouldn’t blink too much before Sandman puts Snurri to sleep.

Andrianov +212 / Hardaway -270

WW Michael "Hollywood" Cruz (10-6/0-1) vs. Benedicte Swanson (19-19-2/0-0)

Swanson has scrub written all over him, literally, it’s his favourite tattoo artist’s go-to phrase.

Cruz -325 / Swanson +250

HW Semmy "Jabaka" Cobb (25-19/1-0) vs. Olli Lindholm (11-7/0-2)

Lindholm looks like cannon fodder based on the records but the bookie has faith in the fact his manager is still hanging in there since he’s been hanging around here forever.

Cobb +122 / Lindholm -149

HW Devin "Main Event" Hill (7-7-1/0-0) vs. Solomon Bundy (4-4/1-0)

Devin’s got a long way to go to get to the Main Event here and Bundy may not be the stepping stone. I’ll always side with the .500 fighter who’s broken his cherry in the org.

Hill +112 / Bundy -138

MW Jaheim "Junior" Reid (31-16/1-1) vs. Tiago Gomes Da Rocha (22-16/1-0)

Da Rocha may have a CFC win but it was in a previous stint and he’s seen too many losses since, so i gotta wit da Jamaican, mon, an if ya feel diffrin’ den row away, boy! (and bet Tiago).

Reid -212 / Da Rocha +170

MW Vladimir "Violence Incarnate" Tarlac (25-19/0-0) vs. Wilky "Thunder" Pierre (13-10/1-1)

Ever wondered why I’ve insisted on including nicknames in the fight intros up until now? that’d be because Vladimir Tarlac has just won the Cause Preview’s 10k bonus for Best Moniker on the Card award. he should also earn a victory here but the book’s not as sold.

Tarlac -163 / Pierre +132

LHW Shogun Silva (4-8/0-2) vs. Vaai "Flying Fox" Finau (8-7/0-0)

Both dudes are dubious, at best; gotta back alley-cat/shit stained, local rubby pissed on coin to wash it off coin for me to flip on this one? didn’t think so… every fight card needs a pick ‘em!

Silva -110 / Finau -110

As that hyperbolic-based writer who’s been in hibernation for far too long, I trust you’ve all enjoyed my glorious chomp downs on all the unsuspecting prey and praise for those who these jaws didn’t feel comfortable clamping down on. The best news is for those who disagree with what you consider to be a harsh assessment (unlike every other time you’ve heard them) is that A Good Cause is putting plenty of money where the mouth is. So we here at the Book encourage you to exercise your right to vote with your money.

peace all/happy new year,

-Cause/aka Finn
