Hilo offered a warm welcome to The Syndicate on Wednesday night when they came to town with 10 big fights, including middleweight title defense.  With over 16,000 fans in attendance, The Syndicate did not disappoint, delivering another outstanding events that kept them planted firmly in the ranking as a top five fight org in the world.  Here's a breakdown of the action:

The judge's scorecards were all over the place in our first fight that saw Chauncey Silvestre (17-8-1) pick up a unanimous decision win over Michael Rodalgo (15-11).  Rodalgo and Silvestre both came out swinging early in the round, with Silvestre getting the best of the exchange.  Rodalgo quickly realized he needed to get the fight to the ground and attempted a takedown that was easily denied by Silvestre.  The fighters continued to trade blows with Silvestre having the upper hand and Rodalgo having multiple takedown attempts stuffed.  Finally, just before the four minute mark, Rodalgo was able to score a takedown but was unable to capitalize on it.  Silvestre was able to slow the action to a crawl and force a referee standup just before the end of the round.  Silvestre clearly won the round and all three judges awarded him a 10:9 advantage.  The second round was not as cut and dried, with Rodalgo scoring two takedown in the round and the majority of the round taking place on the ground.  Rodalgo did some good things on the ground, but Silvestre proved to be a worthy adversary, mounting some surprisingly good offense of his own on the ground.  One judge scored the round for Rodalgo, another judge for Silvestre, and the final judge scored it a draw.  Knowing that he needed to be convincing in the final round, Silvestre came out firing, really punishing Rodalgo with strikes and turning back takedown attempts early in the round.  He had Rodalgo rocked just before the two minute mark in the round, but Rodalgo managed to regain his composure.  Rodalgo mounted a fierce desperation comeback roughly three and a half minutes into the round and finally scored a takedown.  Sensing that he had little time left to work, he unleashed an onslaught of ground and pound and submission attempts in an effort to finish the fight.  Silvestre managed to hold on and impressed the judges enough early in the round to take it 10:9.  A nice win for Silvestre to start off a full night of action.

Lostma Braincells (17-10) appeared to be in trouble early in his fight with Semin Cuk (9-3) but changed his fortunes in a split second with an impressive display of BJJ skills.  Cuk took the fight to the clinch early on and was working body shots on Braincells to wear him down.  Realizing that he was not in a good position, Branincells suddenly pulled guard and latched on a tight triangle, forcing Cuk to tap out at the 1:40 mark of round one.  As Braincells celebrated his victory, Cuk showed obvious frustration with himself as he left the cage.  Braincells' slick work earned him the Submission Of The Night Award.

Featherweights Ratrick Obeh (22-9-2) and Luther Pope (26-12-2) put on an awesome display of standup striking in our third fight, much to the delight of the crowd.  The first round was a close one, with Obeh coming out on top 10:9 with crisp striking and active clinchwork.  Obeh pulled Pope into the clinch to start round two and once again looked like he was going to be able to control the fight.  Pope managed to break free about half way through the round though and was able to gain momentum and get the better of Obeh from a distance to steal the second round on two of the judge's scorecards while the third judge ruled the round a draw.  Obeh once again tried to clinch up to start the third round, but Pope was having none of it and quickly broke free.  The two featherweight warriors let it all hang out at that point, unloading on one another with heavy punches and combinations.  Pope appeared to get stronger as the round wore on and came away with the round and the fight.  The fans were electrified by these two featherweights and their efforts won them Fight Of The Night.

The fourth fight saw Garrett Bisley (17-9) dominate Vinny Vegas (15-8) for all three rounds of their bantamweight matchup.  Bisley appeared to be the stronger of the two fighters and used his strength to his advantage throughout the fight.  In round one Bisley scored a couple of takedowns and absolutely controlled the fight.  Round two saw Bisley score another couple of takedown and use the clinch to have his way with Vegas.  Vegas was able to stay on his feet early in round three, but eventually succumbed to Bisley's wrestling prowess and once again ended up on his back.  All three judges awarded the fight to the clear winner, Garrett Bisley.

Arshad Singh (21-11) came out looking strong in the fifth fight, but Lincoln Hayes (19-9-1) quickly turned the tide on his way to an impressive TKO win.  After eating a few shots from Singh, Hayes took the fight to the clinch and dominated him with punches.  Hayes broke the clinch and nailed a wounded Singh with some heavy shots before rocking him with a head kick.  Hayes forced Singh back into the clinch and but was unable to capitalize, so he broke the clinch and drilled him with an uppercut followed by a combination that dropped Singh to the ground.  The referee dove in to protect Singh from any further punishment and awarded the fight to Hayes via TKO just 2:22 into the fight.

Anderson McGinley (6-1) showed his Muay Thai prowess in his heavyweight battle with veteran Alec Dimanche (16-10).  Both fighter landed punches early and cut one another open, swingy wildly and looking for the kill shot.  McGinley took the fight to the clinch with just under a minute gone in the fight and that's when the punishment started.  McGinley unleashed with a barrage of punches to the head and body from the clinch before unloading with a devastating knee to Dimanche's jaw that left him rocked.  McGinley hit another shot to the body and then delivered a massive uppercut followed a final punch that send Dimanche crumpling to the canvas.  McGinley quickly pounded on his hapless foe, raining down a flurry of punches before the referee dove in for the stoppage.

Ike Turner (17-4-1) kept the string of knockouts rolling in our seventh fight by separating Joe Jordan (18-6) form consciousness with a devastating knockout.  Turner pressed the action early and punished his opponent with his fists, even rocking his opponent before being taken down by Jordan half way through round one.  As impressive as Turner looked early, Jordan was able to control the second half of the round and make it a tough call for the judges.  Turner came back strong to start round two, knocking down and cutting Jordan early in the round and ultimately unloading on him with a three punch combination for the knockout and Knockout Of The Night honors.

Welterweights Nai Khanom Tom (21-6) and EJ Resparzo (16-2) turned in a hell of a performance in a tightly contested matchup.  Tom and Resparzo went back and forth in round one with the momentum swinging back and forth wildly.  Resparzo made a number of attempts to take the fight to the ground in round one that were denied, but he still made enough of an impression on the judges to win the round, although by a razor thin margin.  Tom fought back in round two getting the best of a see saw stand up exchange and winning the round by a narrow margin.  Tom's conditioning really kicked in for the final round as he was able to wear Resparzo down and outlast him to clearly take the final round and win the fight 29:28.

Brutal Deluxe middleweight champion Max Steel (18-3) impressed the fan on The Syndicate by picking up his forth straight win by defeating fellow Brutal Deluxe product Damon Pierce (18-10).  Steel started out nicely, landing some damaging blows to Pierce and cutting him open early in the fight.  Pierce managed to get Steel to the ground with a nice double leg takedown.  A nice display of grappling saw both fighters do some good things on the ground, but Pierce was slightly better and won the favor of the judges in round one.  Round two saw Steel turn back multiple takedown attempts from Pierce while punishing him with well placed strikes.  Steel fully controlled the fight in round two and kept Pierce frustrated, wining the round with ease.  Steel showed more of the same in round three, punishing Pierce and turning back takedown attempts while further opening the cut on his head.  Steel showed supreme confidence and was never in trouble in the final round, winning it clearly and taking the fight with ease.

The main event of the evening saw Tadamasa Yamada (25-9) fall short in his bid for the Syndicate middleweight title, falling victim to the powerful striking of Matt Murdock.  the first round was hotly contested with both fighters landing some powerful blows.  Murdock was cut in round one and concerns surfaced as to whether or not the cut was going to pose him a problem moving forward in the five round contest.  Murdock put those fears to rest in round two.  Just beyond the one minute mark of the round, Murdock rocked Yamada with a nasty head kick and then started to look for the kill.  Yamada appeared to have recovered and gotten out of danger when suddenly Murdock unloaded with another brutal head kick, this one knocking Yamada out on his feet.  Before Yamada could even fall, Murdock followed up with some wicked punches, forcing the referee to step in and top the fight.
