SOTF Confidential

Fighter profile of Charlie Luciano by Michel Sakr

MMA fans around the globe, New York’s fastest rising fighting organization, Survival Of The Fittest, presents the very first edition of SOTF Confidential, a series of articles which will give the fans an insider view  on the life of some of their favorites SOTF fighters, inside the cage and outside it. Today, we kick things of with an interview with  italian lightweight fighter, Charlie ‘’Lucky’’ Luciano (3-0), one of the hottest prospects in the organization thanks to his exciting style and vicious knockouts. Let’s see what  he had to say.

Interviewer: You moved from your country, Italy , and established yourself here in New York in order to chase your dream of becoming an MMA fighter. Tell us a bit about that, and what was it like moving into a new country?

Charlie: Well originally I didn’t mean to become a mixed martial artist it just kind of happened ya know? I went into the gym one day to collect my payments and uh I hit a bag or two and there you have it I became a professional fighter!

Interviewer: 3 professional fights, 3 wins, 3 (T)KOs. You’re still in the beginning of your career, but you’re getting a reputation for being a true knockout artist. Is knocking your opponent out always a part of your game plan, or it just happens genuinely?

Charlie:  No its not actually. Winning my fights is my only gameplan. Whether they take me to the floor and I can submit them or go the distance. It just happens that each fighter I have fought has a weakness that my manager and myself have been able to exploit so far. I never intentionally want to knock out a fighter but if he lets his hands down or allows me to hit him over and over, you can bet your bottom dollar its gonna happen.

Interviewer:  You’re also known as the bonus hunter, in just 3 fights you collected 4 ‘’of the night awards’’ (2 fight of the night and 2 KOs of the night),so it’s fair to say that you’re a very exciting fighter to watch. How important it is for a fighter to get a reputation of being an exciting one? Do you think it will help you in the future?

Charlie:  Well I think you just gave me a nickname haha. It should be one of the main priorities but the first and foremost should always be to win. IF you want to win you will be exciting bottom line. Will it help me in the future? Idk I sure hope so ha being an exciting fighter sure helped Kimbo Slice! Thanks for the nickname by the way.

Interviewer:  Boxing is definitely your strongest weapon, are you still looking to improve your already superb boxing, or does your priority lay in improving your ground game so it can matches your striking?

Charlie:  Oh improvements never stop my man! Never. What I’m worried about right now is my takedown defense. The guy I’m going up against has taken two of his most recent fights to the ground and then beat them unconscious id really hate that to happen to me. So we are working that aspect and I’m more than sure if I can keep the fight standing he wont see a single judges scorecard. My submission game is also one of my focuses I really don’t want to get taken down but if I do and can’t get up I will get that submission.

Interviewer:  SOTF hosts a very crowded and talented lightweight division, where would you rank yourself in that group and which fighter would you look forward the most to fight him?

Charlie:  Nadi Tsunami is probably one of the best I think. Javier Pena is the best and I’m glad I don’t have to fight him haha but who would I want to fight? Right now Tommy Fire is the guy that’s standing in my way and for some reason I have a weird desire to beat him, I have never had this desire before.

note: keep in mind, this interview was done last week, which was before the announcement of the resigning Julio Silva, and the signing of current top ranked lightweight Happy Day.

Interviewer:  What do you think about SOTF as an organization, and where do you see it in the future?

Charlie: You know Marus Marciano is a wonderful man. He makes fair fights and really looks out for the fighters. An owner like that, if he keeps his determination, will no doubt be one of the best I can promise you that.

Interviewer: Reveal to the viewers something interesting they don’t know about you?

Charlie:  I think im going to lose every fight I enter haha

Interviewer:  You’re Italian, you definitely are a soccer fan, which is your favorite Calcio team ?

Charlie:  Believe it or not I watch Barclays Premier League. Yeah my managers bloodlines go back to Liverpool and so he got me into it. I never really grew up enjoying soccer. Weird right? But yeah I got into it after hanging out with him for a while.

Interviewer: Anything you would like to add? A word to your fans maybe?

Charlie:  Yeah hey good luck to all those guys fighting on the cards coming up. Tommy Fire I want to wish you luck to man. Lets give them one of the best Survival of the Fittest shows they have ever seen brother! Thank you for this interview and for a nickname!

Interviewer: Alright Charlie, you’re a great guy and it was a pleasure to interview you, we would like to thank you for your time and wish you the best of luck in your career, and also give a special thanks to your manager Brother Hec who made this interview possible

Charlie: Anytime man, that was fun and I hope we can do it again, only the next time I’ll be wearing a shiny belt around my waist
