BFC FN5 and BFC 15

BFC continues riding high into september with 2 events this week; on friday the 7th fight night 5 takes place at the intimate hayashis lounge while on saturday the 8th BFC 15 will fill the 7,700 capacity sambo centre in st petersberg. Just one day into september BFC has not only staged an event but already crowned a new champion in Wade Dew (4-0 MMA, 3-0 BFC).

Dew, a Hawaii based striker has rocketed his way through the 155lb tournament to become the inaugreal lightweight champion, a title he earned with a decision win over Eric Brooks (3-1 MMA, 2-1 BFC), a TKO over Chris Karter (1-1 MMA, 1-1 BFC) and in the final shut down the take down game of previously undeafeated submission grappler Daniel Garcilazo (2-1 MMA, 2-1 BFC).

Fight night 5 is headlined by a bantamweight scrap between Japans Kesuke Miyagi (13-3-1 MMA, 3-0 BFC) and norways Donald Brevik  (6-6 MMA) who makes his promotional debut. Brevik, a former CEC featherweight champion, is 1-2 since returning to the 135lb division and looks to rebound to his previous form that once saw a 5 fight win streak.

The comain event is a middleweight match up between 30 year old abu-dabi submission grappler Berik Yawoka (8-4 MMA, 3-1 BFC) and fellow BJJ brown belt the affrican assassin  Ayila Obasi (9-3 MMA) who makes his promotional debut. Obasi joins us HMMA where he went 2-1 with his only loss being due to cut in a title shot against champion Kukko. With a combined 16 submission wins between the two combatants some high level grappling seems a certainty.

Yawoka and Obasi warm up not only for the FN5 main event but also the following evening, which is rather middleweight centred featuring both a 185lb title match and a fight between two top contenders in the division.

Headlining champion Trinidad Suarez (8-2 MMA, 3-0 BFC) makes his 2nd title defense against Helsinki based knockout artist  Don Wilson (8-2-1 MMA) who makes both his BFC debut and 185lb debut. Wilson a natural welterweight steped up to 205lbs in his previous 2 fights, which captured him the Kumite LHW title, he rides a four fight win streak and has finished 5 of his previous opponents by tko, he represents perhaps the greatest threar to the reign of Suarez whos current 3 fight win streak includes TKO stoppages over former champion Max Snozynsky (4-2 MMA, 3-2 BFC) and Rickson Rua (14-9 MMA, 0-2 BFC).

The 2nd middleweight bout on the card sees a rematch between two fighters who made their promotional debut at BFC publicity stunt 2; exciting Norweigan grappler and 4 time submission of the night winner Tyr Asgaard (14-4 MMA, 1-0 BFC) and 28 year old new york veteran Chito Ly Cham Ca (17-8-1 MMA, 0-1 BFC) who has previously been a champion at both 185lbs and open-weight. When the two previously met Asgaard secured a submission by arm triangle in just under 4 minutes, the 5th first round submission of his career. Cham Ca, a 4 time KO of the night recipient, thinks the fight will go very differently when the two meet again while Asgaard seeks to prove the outcome was no fluke and aims to extend his win streak to 4 with a repeat performance.

Also on the main card the heavier weight classes are represented in a heavyweight bout between Eduard Syroviy (7-0 MMA, 4-0 BFC) and  Roger De La Hoya  (7-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC). While Hannibal Lecter (15-4 MMA, 2-1 BFC) takes on  Lord Vader (24-14-2 MMA, 1-0 BFC) at superheavyweight.

Undefeated Syroviy has finished every opponent by way of knockout within the opening minute of the fight, earning KO of the night on two occasions. Former AFC heavyweight champion De La Hoya will be next to test his chin, but is no stranger to the striking game with 7 tko finnishs to his own record. Expect fireworks here between 2 of the young up and commers of the heavyweight division.

Former 265lb+ champion Lecter is seeking to reestablish himself after loosing his title in a close decison loss to Aima Hei (28-5 MMA, 1-0 BFC), he should never be counted out as earlier in his career he strung together 13 consecutive ko/tko victories earning himself titles in both DFC and throwdown. 34 year old veteren Vader, currently rides a 3 fight win streak and has changed up his camp for this fight relocating to london to train with the eminence domain team. The russian is equally at home on the feet and the matt- having finished opponents in spectacular style in both areas of the fight- he likley looks to take this to the ground to avoid the pure striking of Lecter, who is however a brown belt in his own right and has never been submitted. This is certainly one not to miss as both these competitors show a level of skills rarley seen in a division known for hard hitting brawlers.
