Contenders Weekly Whenever Washdown 4

29/01/23

Welcome back sports fans, we've had a great couple of months at Contenders and thanks to Butch we've had our first ever rankings. Today we will dive back into those with some updates and also a quick survey around what else is happening around the org.

Card Results - Draws draw crowds! Nitro dethroned! Nyla stops the Pablo onslaught! Dye amping up the competition!

At the time of writing, DC has seen a whopping FOUR draws across two of our cards (out of the last three). One of these were the cheeky 185ers Attilio De Fiore and Sonny Corleone Jnr who proceeded to have their SECOND draw in a row (the first being a separate 5th draw unrelated to these two cards). On top of that, we had our first title fight ending in a draw with inaugural champ Jan Sokol doing just enough to retain his belt in a grapple fest with Frank Dux. Both these matchups are potentially set to take place again at DC 29: Rematch Bonanza.

Other matchups around the org saw inaugural 185 champ Jimmy Nitro get dethroned by Marky Mark product Tiamat Tenkula. The quietly spoken Finn is easy to underestimate but has proved to have dynamite in his fists. Jimmy now moves up to 205, potentially paving the way for teammate Donny Knightley to have a tilt for the belt. However, Knightley has to get through Jay Porter first while the champ Tenkula takes on org newcomer and emerging starlet Leonardo Esposito.

Speaking of 205, this is now the domain of Pablo Spezziale product Borowa Gora. Gora is one of a whopping three belt holders at Dynasty Contenders coming out of camp Heavy Metal, with Haw Thorn at 265 (though defending tonight vs Chad Billingsly) and Paavo Talvela at 170. Team Heavy Metal looked seriously poised to add a 4th belt to their camp when Senger Line took on defending champ Sammy Nyla in the 155 div at DC Sunday Sesh 6. After a back and forth fight that went to the 5th round at incredible pace, it was the champ Sammy Nyla that landed the crippling blow, finishing Line deep into the fight and stopping the Heavy Metal onslaught (for now!).

And finally, on the topic of onslaught, nothing else can describe Jack Dye's incredible run of form under current manager Django Waits, continuing his previous results. He's now well and truly amongst the top of the division with an impressive win over one time title contender Sam Diego. A lot of eyes will be on him in his next fight as he takes on a very tricky grappler in Pierre Ledoux on the very same card 170 champ Paavo Talvela attempts to defend his belt against Cuervo Oquendo.
