Author:Michel Sakr

After six successful events, New  York’s fastest rising MMA organization, Survival of the Fittest, presents SOTF 7: Vengeance, an event that will be brought to you live from the Hard Knocks arena on Sunday the 9th of September, and as usual in association with our merchandise partners, Canadian Fighter Clothing. This event will feature 10 exiting bouts, headlined by the fight between top ranked lightweights, Joao Pequeno and Happy Day. Let’s get our detailed fight per fight preview started:

Dean Campana v Scott Donavan

We kick things off with the welterweights. Young wrestler and BJJ brown belt, Dean Campana makes his SOTF debut. Welcoming him to his new organization is the veteran boxer and BJJ purple belt Scott Donavan who will be hopping to end his 7 fight loosing streak, possibly with a good old fashioned knockout. Meanwhile Campana will try to utilize his superior ground game to get the win that will establish him as another serious prospect at 170.

Chris Adams v Joseph Sekyere

We move down to the lightweights, where 2 young fighters will be making their respective SOTF debuts with both men hoping to get their first career win. 24 year old Muay Thai specialist, Chris Adams, will try to utilize his big reach advantage to dominate the striking game. On the other hand, well-rounded 19 year old fighter Joseph Sekeyere still has time to turn his career around, but after 4 straight losses, he has to start now, so expect this to be a do-or-die fight.

Bewter Hacks v Jack Kulen

It’s time for the the heavyweights folks. Two 23 year old proficient boxers will battle it out for the win. Boston’s own Bewter Hacks is still searching his first professional win, and there’s no better time to do so than during his promotional debut. Meanwhile Philippino fighter Jack Kulen is already an SOTF veteran, having already fought on the organization’s first two events, getting a win via TKO and then dropping a unanimous decision. Both fighters could be looking for the knockout, but it’s worth mentioning that Kulen has never been finished in his six professional fights

Forest Griffin v Royler Silva

In the light-heavyweight division, 18 year old Russian striker Forest Griffin is hoping to rebound from his early knockout loss in his promotional debut at SOTF 3 when he takes on 19 year old Brazilian BJJ blue belt Royler Silva who is making his SOTF debut. While Griffin has the clear advantage in the striking game, his non-existing ground game consists a huge whole in his abilities that Silva would be crazy if he doesn’t try to capitalize on it.

  Zhang Zhu v Hugh Matthews

Back to the welterweights where two true veterans of the sport will collide in their respective 3rd SOTF appearances. 30 year old Chinese striker Zhang Zhu will be hoping to rebound from his two previous losses against Vincenzo Calliente at SOTF 2 and Roy Brown at SOTF 4 and finally get his first promotional win. On the other hand, 31 year old wonderful boxer and elite wrestler Hugh Matthews who won his promotional debut against Roy Brown at SOTF 2, will be looking to re-climb to the top of the 170 ladder after his upset defeat against Calliente at SOTF 4. There won’t be any room for mistake for any of the two fighters

Cassius Boran v Shawn Witt

Still in the welterweight division, two fighters will battle it out in their respective SOTF debuts. 28 year old BJJ brown belt Cassius Boran, takes on 20 year old respectable boxer Shawn Witt, who will have the advantage on his feet. But Boran posses a very impressive ground game and is one of the best grapplers in the division, as portrayed by 8 of his 9 professional victories which came via submission. Expect to see another good old fashioned ‘’striker vs grappler’’ fight

 Unigu Rege v Diego Nunes

In the lightweight division, it’s the battle between two BJJ purple belts looking to impress in their respective promotional debuts. 24 year old Finnish fighter Unige Rege possesses an impressive well-rounded game that will mark him as the favorite in the books of most experts, but his best aspect is his grappling, as demonstrated by the fact that half of his 8 career wins came via submission. But on the other hand, his 27 year old Brazilian opponent Diego Nunes is a fighter who has never been submitted in his 9 professional bouts, and will be looking to pull off the upset and put himself high on the 155 ladder

Tommy Fire v Charlie Luciano

Still in the lightweight division, we have a classical ‘’wrestler vs boxer’’ bout. 22 year old Jamaican wrestler Tommy Fire will be making his SOTF debut, and expect him to try to take the fight to the ground as soon as the bell rings . On the other side of the cage will be 23 year old Italian boxer Charlie Luciano who will be hoping to stay undefeated and earn his second straight promotional win. While Fire has never been knocked-out in 18 professional fights, Luciano has won all of his three career fights via (T)KO.

And for more on Charlie Luciano and this bout, you can check out the first edition of SOTF Confidential that has been already published in the 44th edition of Tycoon Times.

Ce Ca v Chris Rudd

It’s now time for our co-main event of the evening, two greatly well-rounded welterweights will battle it out. 23 year old and Austin’s own Ce Ca is known for his exceptional striking, and is also a BJJ purple belt. On the other hand, 32 year old Australian fighter Chris Rudd, is a sensational boxer and a BJJ brown belt. Determining who the favorite is in this one is almost impossible, so let’s just sit down, relax and enjoy two of the best  170 pounders in New York do what they do best.

Joao Pequeno v Happy Day

Time for the main event folks! SOTF is honored to introduce to you two former champions who pretty much mirror each other in terms of abilities. Currently ranked as the the third lightweight in the world, Brazilian fighter Joao Paqueno is one of the most decorated fighters in the world, winning multiple championships, and with 17 (T)KOs to his name and never being knocked-out in 33 professional fights, he is definitely someone who you wouldn’t want to trade punches with…. Unless your name is Happy Day. The Las Vegas born fighter is also a champion in his own right, with 14 (T)KOs and 4 fight of the night awards, he might just be the perfect guy you would build to fight Pequeno. Who will win this one is anybody’s guess, but one thing is for sure, this will be a fight for the ages!
