KFZ Reigns Supreme

Fighter profile of Bong Ji Woo by Chris Karter

The Kung Fu Zombie does it again folks, Bong Ji Woo (30-8-0) defended his Combate Lightweight title in a 5 rounder thriller against top lightweight contender "Ruthless" Rafael Benedetti (20-10-0) from the Canadian Elite Bruins Gym. Over the course of 5 rounds the two battled in a closely contested contest, meeting in the center of the ring and letting their fist and feet fly. With deadly accurate and razor sharp precision the two combatents put on a show for the fans by engaging in 25 minutes of fisticuffs.

Bong Ji Woo jumped out to an early lead, dominating the opening frame, but the 2nd round was much closer and Rafael Benedetti appeared to take the edge in the 3rd round. The Convicted Fight Club fighter from South Korea battled back in the 4th to secure the round, but the title challenger from Urugauy would show the heart of a champion in the 5th round, taking it on all 3 of the judges cards. By the end of the bout, both men were exhausted and had emptied their energy tanks.

The judges scored the contest 49-46, 49-47, and 49-47, for your winner by way of unaminous decision, Bong Ji Woo! This victory marks Bong Ji Woo's first title defense, and second lightweight title fight. Benedetti would see his 7 fight winning streak snapped by the South Korean, but he walked away with his head held high, earning the respect and admiration of the Combate organization and MMA fans all around the globe.

As for what's next for the champion they deem the Kung Fu Zombie? Nobody really knows. He currently reigns supreme over the Combate lightweight division. The grappling sensation is clearly the 2nd best lightweight on the planet, with the #1 ranked lightweight being his teammate, Ryoto Takahashi (23-8-0). Bong Ji Woo contributes a lot of his success to having a training partner like Takahashi to forge his abilities and push him in the gym, really helping refine his striking and take it to the next level, and like wise, Takahashi has contributed his success to the Kung Fu Zombie as well.
