Ready for one final Bloodbath

Fighter profile of Kilo Maluga by Chris Karter

Kilo "Bloodbath" Maluga (61-14-0) has had the most illustrious career of any fighter in the history of the sport and the most feared knockout artist to ever grace the cage, finishing all 61 of his victories by way of knockout. He's accomplished more than any other fighter in the game and has arguably put together three or four hall of fame worthy resumes inside a single career. He's a 36-time SYN Heavyweight champion, an Olympic Gold medalist, the $10 million dollar YB Sol Heavyweight Grand prix winner, and the first ever back-to-back Fighter of the Year. There is no other fighter who comes close to competing with his insane resume.

It's madness to think that a fighter with this type of resume is still competing at 38 years old. After defeating his heavyweight rival Kjetil Olsen (30-12-0) with back at SYN 995 to re-capture the SYN Heavyweight title, many thought he'd lay down his gloves. That's not what he did at all. Instead he baffled MMA fans when he called for a title shot despite the championship belt being wrapped around his waist. Perhaps he was still delirious from the big head kick he ate from Olsen in the first round, or many a compilation of all the CTE he has sustained in his 75 fight career, stemming from any number of the 14 losses he's suffered.

"I'm not that old." Kilo tells the camera crews when they ask about his blunder on the mic. "I was caught up in the moment. I wanted to let the fans know I was ready to defend my belt one final time. I couldn't pass the opportunity to compete at SYN 1000. It will be a historic moment and the fans deserve this."

SYN is set to host it's 1000th event and there's nothing more suiting than Kilo "Bloodbath" Maluga, the face of the SYN organization, taking on Adan Puno (16-5-0), the grandson of the legendary former SYN Heavyweight Champion Fidel Puno (34-8-0), and son of former world champion Kajun Puno (32-9-0). This main event is everything fans could ever dream of, as two of the very best heavyweights are set to collide in another epic showdown.

These two have faced off against each other once before back at SYN 957, with Kilo emerging victorious by way of Knockout (Head kick) in the first round in what would be a truly disappointing outing for Puno and his camp. Perhaps none was more disappointed than Puno himself who emphasized how determined he was to avenge the loss and compete against the one of the best Heavyweights of all time.

"Respect where respect is due. It is an honor to face off against the best Heavyweight striker of all time." Puno can hardly keep a straight face. "Fidel and Kajun were the best MMA fighters of all time. They knew Jiu-Jitsu."

Adan touts a black belt in jiu-jitsu himself, and despite never submitting an opponent in a sanctioned bout, Puno didn't hesitate to take a jab at Kilo's alleged purple belt.

"Who give this belt to him? Whoever give Kilo a purple belt should have their priviledges revoked. I have it on good authority that he's never rolled a day in his life."

Perhaps Kilo's lack of grappling will be a hole in the champion's game that the challenger looks to exploit? Kilo however responded to reporters during fight week when he was asked about Puno's comments related to his Jiujitsu (or lack of):

"Fight starts on the feet. Good luck getting it to the ground, I have defended many takedowns from better wrestlers in the past." Kilo states with a grin. "Everybody's a blackbelt until they get punched in the face or kicked in the head."

Many fans speculate that a win at SYN 1000 will be a fitting end to Kilo "Bloodbath" Maluga's legendary career, but some fans think Kilo's addiction to violence and bloodshed will keep the heavyweight juggernaught competiting, chasing glory, shedding blood, sweat, tears, all in the name of the Just Bleed gods.

"I can't comment on retirement. I am only focused on this fight ahead of me." Kilo tells reporters. "Without focus, you get knocked the fuck out. I need to respect my opponent, his granite chin, and his knockout power, or he can turn out my lights. He must respect me as well, because I have proven to him that I can shut his lights off as well. I expect the fans will be happy the most by the end of it."
