Top LHW ready to defend crown against ambitious MW

Fighter profile of Mohammed Kahn by Chris Karter

"The Pitbull" Mohammed Kahn (37-10-1) almost decided to leave his gloves inside the cage and conclude his hall-of-fame Combate career after coming away from Combate 207 with a big victory over Suriname's Roberto Fabinho (20-8-1). It was a rather lackluster affair for the better part of 3 rounds until Kahn put together some ground offense, swept his opponent, and manhandled him before locking in a rear naked choke with seconds left in the round.

The light heavyweight champion didn’t participate at the Combate 207 post-fight press conference. So for those wishing to hear more from him after what most thought would be his final fight, Kahn did issue a message to his Muslim speaking fans, which wasn’t really translated on the broadcast.

In his almost-but-not-really-a-retirement speech, Kahn discussed his humble beginnings from the streets of Beirut to becoming a massive global star and Combate Light Heavyweight champion. After his father and uncle passed away after a drone strike in Syria, Kahn also stated how he now wants to spend as much time as he can with his children.
“To my fans — if I say my fans, that would be wrong. Let’s say all my Quran-carrying fans. A huge thank you to you all,” Kahn said as translated by Tycoon Times. “When I started MMA career as Middleweight, and when I signed with the Combate organization when I was 26 years old, many people didn’t believe. They thought it was impossible. I’m a simple guy from a Beirut streets.”

“When I came here, my brother told me ‘Google says you’re the planet’s most discussed person.’ I couldn’t believe it because I didn’t even think of that. I just wanted to be champion with the guidance of my father. I never thought I’d get such a heavy load dropped on my shoulders,” he said.
“Alhamdullillah (praise be to god). If you have parents, be close to them. That’s all,” Kahn stated. “I have no parents left, only children and many wives. I want to spend more time with them. Make sure the little minions are ready to take over the sport.”
Mohammed Kahn, one of the top pound-for-pound MMA fighters today, plans to retire on top and on his own terms after his next title defense against Fabinho's teammate and Combate's middleweight champion, Shinnosuke Nakagawa (22-8-0). So far Nakagawa has compiled a perfect 5-0 record inside the Combate cage, and he plans on becoming the first double champion in the organization's history.

“I hate to break it to this guy, but I will nuke him and spoil his party.” Kahn says with a laugh. "My last fight, I felt sluggish. A fraction of myself. I couldn't find my rhythm and my coordination was off. I won't make the same mistakes. I will make sure that Nakagawa feels the power I possess at Light Heavyweight when I make kaboom with his head."
