Danny Cruz (9-0-0) received a major vote of confidence from Combate president and his Convicted Fight Club manager, Chris Karter, following his epic head kick KO win over Tadahiro Nomura (8-1-0) back at HFC 90 to defend the 135-pound title.

The talented bantamweight contender was a sizeable underdog for his title fight with “Triple Gold.” Cruz had demonstrated high-level striking throughout his MMA career, but many thought Nomura’s wrestling and submission game would be too much. Surprisingly, Cruz was able to defend all takedowns and lined himself up for a massive head kick knockout in the first round.

Cruz ended up connecting with one of the most perfectly-timed head kicks we’ve ever seen. Nomura crashed to the cage and that was all she wrote. By the time the referee stepped in for the stoppage, Cruz had already walked off with the undisputed HFC bantamweight title. It was an incredible moment for the rising HFC superstar.

After the fight, Cruz celebrated with family members inside of the cage, which is something he’s never done before following a HFC victory. He was also greeted by his manager Chris Karter, who uttered a classic one-liner to the new bantamweight king.

“To have everyone in there after the fight still feels kind of like a dream,” said Cruz in a recent interview with the Tycoon Times. “That moment Karter is wrapping the belt around, he said ‘Kid, you have no idea how much money you’re going to make.’ I said yes I do. That’s exactly what he said. I said I do.”

Cruz, who was already one of the most popular fighters on the HFC roster, is expected to blow up even more after his title-winning KO over a promising fighter like Nomura. It should allow “Showtime” to become even a bigger household name and provide himself with more opportunities to bank serious cheddar.
