APEX 1 preview

Event Preview: APEX 1
Apex Fighting Championship (380k)
2023-09-08, London, Wombley Arena
Author:Real Rocket

Gentlemen, we sit here on the precipice of greatness, about to witness the beginning of something that will define a whole era of MMAT organisational history.

APEX 1 is upon us. Following the formulation of the org, with the ambition of becoming the premier location for fighters 380k plus, we have now successfully merged with SMFL in Helsinki. Seeing our roster rise rapidly into the mid 80s, we now have the foundation of an epic fighter catalogue to groom into open id killer elites.

We have some fantastic prizes coming down the line for fighters, not only do we have our beautifully crafted title belt for the champions of APEX to wear. We will also be offering up lots of trophies and fighter unique skins for those who achieve and participate in the org.

Wombley Arena is primed and ready for us and we will now share a preview of our main card.

Main event: Batu "ZAZA" Otgonbayar vs Ewgenju Scorfna

Batu Otgonbaya, hailing from Montego Bay, Jamaica, is seeking to shake off the dirt stuck onto him by some media outlets following his tutelage of now disgraced MMAT manager Floyd Mayweather jr. Otgonbaya has always maintained his position of ignorance to his previous managers tactics and that the fighters he has faced to this point have been just as equally skilled and capable as he. Now the only way to prove that to be true is by facing a truly equal fighter, enter Ewgenju Scorfna. Scorfna is a ground specialist who has had the same manager since turning pro, the relative newcomer to MMAT Stan Still. Scorfna is confident in his ability to defeat Otgonbayar anywhere this fight goes, and has wasted no time in telling the media that he fully believes his opponent has been padded and handheld into false idolism status. Scorfna plans to knock Otgonbayar off his perch. Otgonbayar says he's just getting comfortable and has no plans of shifting to anyone in the division.

Co-Main Event: Ghost Chai vs Egor "Siberian bear" Kuznecov

The moment this fight was announced and released to the press ticket sales have been flying out to all corners of the globe. Ghost Chai is set to enter the cage for the 16th time as a pro and improve on his record of 10-5. Coming from Winnipeg Canada he makes no apologies for his heritage and even less than no apology for knocking his opponents out cold. Apex manager Glen Rocket has been made aware of Ghost Chai's tendency to blame promoters for his losses and if you speak to Ghost he will tell you his record is 15-0, if only for the incompetence of org owners. Setting up to end Ghosts 2 fight win streak is the "Siberian Bear" Egor Kuznecov. The x factor of this fighter is Kuznecov's manager being an org owner himself. Aleksey Markov, owner of HFC, has yet to taste the vitriolic tongue bashing of a Ghost Chai loss within his org, but Kuznecov will no doubt be reminding Chai to put a bit of respect on org owners and accept that he might be getting beat because he hasn't got what it takes. Expect fireworks and ground shaking explosive power when these two finally come face to face in the Wombley cage.

Luuk Benjamin vs Frankie "The King of the Islands" Venegas

Luuk Benjamin made a lightning start to his MMA career, going 8 fights unbeaten before being KO'd at the hands of Liam Murphy at RISE 133. His career since then has been hit and miss leading to his separation from his previous manager The Boss. Now flying the One Man Wolf Pack flag under his new manager Akira Shigeru, Benjamin is keen to get back to his early ways of winning back to back victories. His opponent, Frankie Venegas, will tell anyone who asks, and even plenty who don't, he is "The King of the Islands". Some have no idea what that means, but it's provocative, get's the people going! Venegas has had an impressive career to date, stepping into the cage 35 times already with a career record of 20 wins and 15 losses. A mixed record for a fighter but he's managed by a McChicken Sandwich, apparently!?

Tomahawk "The King Of The Reservate" Chai vs David Hanson

Another of the Chai clan on this card, with Ghost Chai taking part in the cards Co-Main, Tomahawk cuts a far more resolute and respectful figure. Dubbed "king of the Resevate" Tomahawk wears his origin story like armour. He has fought for everything he has, not only for his -5 record but for every freedom he enjoys today. Way back before he could make a living from MMA, Tomahawk was battling daily for food, territory and personal pride. Land, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness as it states in the Declaration of Independence, but that beacon of oppression for his people is not something he would affiliate himself with, and I will not be disrespecting Tomahawk by affiliating his journey with it either. Across the cage from the hefty weight of all Tomahawk has fought for is David Hanson. Hanson is a ground specialist under the management of Legion of Doom alliance member, Shape Shifter. Hanson has yet to cement himself as a household name as his record of 7-4-1 isn't setting anyone's head on fire to be in their seat early enough to see him. But he has grit and a steely determination to improve every time he steps into the cage and he is currently coming off of back to back wins, a feat he hasn't been able to achieve since his first 2 wins as a pro. The residents of Sweden love their homegrown talent and we have already seen lots of Swedish flags being flown around Wombley in the build up to fight week.

Rudi Kardi vs Clint River

Starting our main card of the evening is Rudi Kardi vs Clint River. Kardi has had an excellent start to his MMA pro career with a record of 7-2-2, all 7 of his wins have ended in submission victory. Kardi has been defeated twice in the cage, once via TKO victory at the hands of another of the Chai clan, and another a disappointing UD defeat at the hands of newly announced Savage Scholarship inductee, Bo Duran. Rudi Kardi has been waxing lyrical all week about his dominance on the ground and how he feels he could choke out a kraken given the chance and level playing field. His opponent, Clint River, has a simple reply to Kardi's taunts of "your going to tap in the 1st", Clint's response "you have to get close enough first". And getting close to River is no mean feat let alone likely to be a fun night. Clint matches his opponents record of 7-2 and matches his opponents record of 7 finishes, though he puts people to sleep with blunt force trauma, not fancy cuddles and holds. Its ground vs stand up, LOD vs convicted inc, titan vs titan. What a way to start our main card, make sure your in your seat early enough for this one.
