SOTF 12: The Massacre Preview

Event Preview: SOTF 12: The Massacre
Survival of the Fittest
2012-09-30, New York, Credit Card Center
Author:Michel Sakr

The action packed weekend with New York’s fastest rising MMA organization, Surival of the Fittest, continues as we proudly present to you SOTF 12: The Massacre, an event that will held live from the Credit Card Center arena in New York, on Sunday the 30th of September 2012, and as always in the association of our merchandise partners, Canadian Fighter Clothing (890). This event will feature ten exiting fights, and will be headlined by the lightweight bout between Jie Liu and Joao Pequeno. Now it’s time to take a closer look at each of the bouts:

Johnny Rotten v Bewter Hacks
And what better way to kick things off than in a heavyweight battle! 28 year old BJJ purple Johnny will be making his SOTF debut after fighting for several organizations without being able to find major success, and now it would be the best time for him to start a winning roll. Meanwhile 23 year old strong boxer Bewter Hacks will be making his second appearance for the organization after dropping a decision to James Kulen at SOTF 7, and he is still searching for his first career win. In a bout where either fighter can’t afford to lose, Will Philly’s own Jhonny Rotten be able to lock a submission that earns him the win, or will the Boston native Bewter Hacks be able to knock him out?

Hannibal King v Giorgio Chiellini
We move down the welterweight division where two fighters will be making their third respective promotional appearances. 30 year old strong wrestler and BJJ purple Hannibal King is a true late bloomer. After signing with the organization, he was able to get his first two career victories after getting first round submission wins over Robert Trutka at SOTF 3 and John Freeman at SOTF 5 which earned him the ‘’submission of the night’’ award, and he is currently 2-0 in the organization. On the other hand, 21 year old well-rounded Italian fighter Giorgio Chiellini had a rough debut in his new organization, losing to Jamie Cooney at SOTF 3, but he rebounded well and submitted Robert Trutka at SOTF 5, and is now looking to keep climbing the 170 ladder. Will king continue his roll and remain undefeated? Or will Chiellini provide the upset in this one?

Dominick Silvic v Zhang Zhu

We remain in the welterweight division, where 23 year old strong wrestler and Muay Thai fighter Dominick Silvic takes on 30 year old Chinese remarkable Muay Thai fighter Zhang Zhu. Both men are still searching for their first win in the organization, as Silvic lost his debut fight at SOTF 8 against Roy Brown and is now riding a 5-fight losing streak that he must be eager to end. Meanwhile, Zhu’s luck hasn’t been any better than that of his opponent in his recent fights, as he lost his first three bouts here in the organization, against Vincenzo Calliente at SOTF 2, Roy Brown at SOTF 4 and Hugh Matthews at SOTF 7. So with both men desperate for a win in this stage of their careers, expect this one to be a bloody brawl!

   Frank Mir v Brock Rua

Back to the heavyweight division. 24 year old strong wrestler and BJJ purple Frank Mir has already established himself as a dangerous man at 265. In his promotional debut, he submitted James Rivera at SOTF 4, before finishing Andouh Andouh at SOTF 8 in just five seconds! But now he faces a tougher challenge in a man who is hoping to have an impressive SOTF debut as well, 28 year old Polish remarkable boxer and wonderful wrestler Brock Rua. And while Rua will have the advantage in the striking department, as well as being the superior wrestler, he remains a fighter who is vulnerable to submissions, as proved by his three career defeats which all came in the same manner, and this statistic will surely give some hope to Mir who is a specialist grappler, as he knows what he will have to do to win this one and remain undefeated here in SOTF.

Alexander Popov v Richter Alastrasz

In a card loaded with welterweight bouts, 25 year old Russian sensational Muay Thai fighter and BJJ purple belt Alexander Popov will return to the cage after earning the ‘’fight of the night’’ award in his losing effort against The Flash in his promotional debut at SOTF 5, but now it’s time for the man who earned 8 of his 9 professional victories via (T)KO to get back to his winning ways. But that definitely won’t be an easy task when he takes on 28 year old romanian wonderful wrestler and BJJ brown belt Richter Alastrasz, who is one of the best fighters that utilize ground and pound. While Popov is clearly the better striker, he wouldn’t want to go to the mat with someone like Alastrasz.

 Frank Marko v Mamoru Takamura

Time for another heavyweight encounter. Despite only being a BJJ blue belt, 24 year old Greek respectable wrestler Frank Marko is a grappler to be feared, winning all five of his professional bouts via various first round submission moves including two fights here in this organization, earning the ‘’submission of the night’’ award for his debut win against Hawk TouchTheClouds at SOTF 3 and he then followed it by a victory via Armbar against Tyler Durdun at SOTF 6. On the opposing corner will be 21 year old Japanese wonderful boxer and proficient wrestler Mamrou Takamura who will be making his SOTF debut hoping to write a better chapter in his career after suffering few setbacks recently. While the young Japanese fighter is the superior striker and wrestler of the two, you can always count on Marko to use his grappling in order to deliver the upset.

Cassius Boran v Kiichi Miyazawa

In our last welterweight bout of the evening, two proficient wrestlers and BJJ brown belts will battle it out. After submitting Shawn Witts in his promotional debut at SOTF 7, 29 year old Brazilian fighter Cassius Boran will be making his second appearance for the organization in the hope of continuing his rise to the top of the 170 ladder. On the other hand, 25 year old year old Japanese fighter Kiichi Miyazawa will be making his SOTF debut hoping to make a great first impression by beating a strong opponent. With both men being mere images of each others in terms of abilities, it is worth noting that while Boran prefers to submit his opponents, as proved by 9 of his 10 career wins that came via submissions, his Japanese opponent likes to mix things up between submission moves and ground and pound.

Junior Silva v Eugene Bradley Burns

In the light-heavyweight division, two champions will collide in their respective second promotional appearances in a 5-round battle. 25 year old Brazilian exceptional wrestler and BJJ red belt Junior Silva is the former Boomerang light-heavyweight champion, and despite dropping a decision in his first appearance here in the organization against Prime Time at SOTF 8, he was rewarded with the ‘’fight of the night’’ bonus for his efforts, which was the fourth time he receives this award in his young career. His opponent this time will be 31 year old Canadian exceptional wrestler and BJJ brown belt Eugene Bradley Burns, who is the reigning CFL light-heavyweight champion, and he also didn’t find any success in his promotional debut at SOTF 9, getting knocked out by Jose Duran. Both men will be looking for redemption, which only one can get, Silva’s superior grappling will draw him as the favorite in most expert’s books, but Burns’ experience could also prove to be vital in this one.

Tony Soprano v Aima Hei

In our co-main event of the evening, it’s time to crown our first ever SOTF light-heavyweight champion! 30 year old sensational striker and BJJ purple belt Tony Soprano is the reigning Cage War Hilo light-heavyweight champion and will be looking to add one more title to his superb resume that includes the VFC light-heavyweight championship. The New Jersey born fighter is a true knockout artist, getting 14 of his 22 professional wins via (T)KOs, and he has only been finished once in his 29 fights career. On the other hand, making his second promotional appearance is 29 year old sensational Dutch boxer and wrestler and BJJ brown belt Aima Hei who continued his great roll by defeating Dick Tanner at SOTF 8. The Dutch fighter is the reigning ACME - Brutal FC light-heavyweight champion and the former WCE light-heavyweight champion as well. While this seems to be a very close fight on the feet in terms of abilities, Hei’s superior wrestling and grappling will give him the advantage if can take the fight to the mat. Whoever wins this one, once thing is for sure, we will be honored to have one of those two great fighters wearing our belt.

Jie Liu v Joao Pequeno

In such a stacked card, only a true super-fight would fit as our main-event. 24 year old Chinese exceptional striker and wrestler and BJJ black belt Jie Liu will be making his SOTF debut as the reigning GSF lightweight champion, and possesses one of the most impressive records that you can find, getting 8 of his 12 career wins by (T)KOs and only suffering one career loss, and is currently riding a 6-fight winning streak. On the opposing corner of the cage will be 29 year old Brazilian sensational striker and BJJ brown belt Joao Pequeno who returns the organization after dropping a decision to Happy Day at SOTF 7 which earned him the ‘’fight of night’’ award. Pequeno is also a champion in his own right, having previously won the featherweight belts of both The Syndicate and Generic MMA. In a fast speed lightweight bout that has ‘’fight of the night’’ written all over it, Pequeno seems to be the more vicious striker (17 career TKOs), but Liu will have the advantage in the grappling aspect, which will make the odds in this one pretty even, so make sure to tune in because you know you don’t wanna miss this one!
