Welcome to a special holiday edition of HERO. It is the Thanksgiving weekend in Canada and HERO is celebrating it with HERO: Thanksgiving Brawl. Our main event will be a featherweight title clash between current champion Georgi Todorov and former champion Pekka Pikkarainen. We also have Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao battling Shazaam McDaniels in a bantamweight matchup.

Let's head inside the cage and check out the action.

HERO: Thanksgiving Brawl

Prelims

Middleweight Division:  Taisto Rahapussi vs Dave Iverson

In the opening frame, Iverson scored two takedowns and dominated with ground and pound. The second round was a close one that could have been scored either way. Iverson was once again winning with ground and pound in the third and was on his way to a decision win, when out of nowhere, Rahapussi got an armbar and forced Iverson to tap with just three seconds left in the fight. Result: Rahapussi by 3rd round submission (Armbar)

Light Heavyweight Division: Dave De Decker vs Rob Tandy

De Decker stopped all three takedowns that Tandy threw at him in this brief fight. He countered with hard punches. Each one causing significant damage. One right hand cut Tandy and another knocked him down. Yet another sent him to the canvas again, where a flurry of punches ended the fight. Result: De Decker by 1st round KO (Punches)

Light Heavyweight Division: Mertsi Peltola vs Jaarko Hahlund

Over the first rwo rounds, Peltola held his own in the striking, while also landing takedowns and controlling the ground game. Hahlund came back in the third, cutting Mertsi with a head kick. However, it was too little, too late as Peltola won on the judges scorecards. Result: Peltola by unanimous decision

Middleweight Division: Dave Geerts vs Marius Matei

Matei was effective in the clinch in all three rounds, using a mix of knees and elbows to dominate Dave Geerts. However, it was his ground game that allowed him to win the fight. Geerts scored a late takedown, but it wasn't long before Matei had reversed it and advanced to mount. From there, it was two and a half minutes of brutal pounding before the ref ended things. Result: Matei by 3rd round TKO (Strikes)

Featherweight Division: Andrzej Rostowski vs Trulove Sackett

As soon as the bell rung, Rostowski quickly shot in for a takedown. He immediately went for a heel hook, but Sackett avoided it and ended up on top. Rostowski kept working away for submissions from the bottom. Sackett defended a guillotine attempt and a triangle try, but Rostowski went for it again and finished with the triangle on the next go. Result: Rostowski by 1st round submission (Triangle Choke)

Main Card

Middleweight Division: Eliod Bunkley Iii vs Arto Markkanen

Bunkley avoided every strike that Markkanen threw at him, landed a takedown, and went to work with his ground and pound. Some shots to the head and body rocked Arto, then another big fist to the head made Markkanen's eyes roll back in his head, ending the fight. Result: Bunkley by 1st round TKO (Strikes)

Bantamweight Division: Jason McMillan vs Lapu Lapu

Lapu tried for takedowns in this fight, but McMillan's defense made sure that this was a striking battle. While Lapu was successful with his punches, he didn't throw enough to counter the high number of kicks thrown by McMillian. In the end, it was activity and aggressiveness that ruled the day in this one. Result: McMillan by unanimous decision

Heavyweight Division: Ludo Kopper vs Madison Grant

In the opening round, Kopper busted Grant open with a head kick and opened it up more with a jab. Grant tried hard to get the fight to the ground, but he couldn't. On the feet, Kopper kept targeting the cut, turning Grant's face into a bloody mess. The doctor didn't like the look of things and called an end to the bout near the end of the second round. Result: Kopper by 2nd round TKO (Cut)

Co-Main Event

Bantamweight Division: Manny Pacquiao vs Shazaam McDaniels

Very early on, McDaniels connected with a huge shot that dropped Pacquiao. When he went to the mat to finish things off, Pacquiao grabbed his arm and forced McDaniels to tap in what might have been the most exciting 37 seconds in HERO history. Result: Pacquiao by 1st round submission (Armbar)

Main Event

Featherweight Championship: Georgi Todorov vs Pekka Pikkarainen

Pikkarainen wanted this fight on the mat, but couldn't manage to land a takedown. He did quite well matching Todorov shot for shot for a while, but eventually, the champ threw a nice punch-knee combination that knocked Pekka out cold. Result: Todorov by 1st round TKO (Punch and Knee)

Post Fight Press Conference

AJ Nex congratulated Todorov on retaining his title. He also gave a big thanks to all the fighters on the card for putting on a good show.

He concluded the presser by handing out the night's awards:

KO of the Night: Dave De Decker

Sub of the Night: Taisto Rahapussi

Fight of the Night: Manny Pacquiao vs Shazaam McDaniels

The middleweight belt is on the line on October 10th with Albert Fish trying to dethrone Eddie Torrez at HERO 36. Then, on October 13, Aleksi Vihtala and Atte Peltola meet for the third time, with light heavyweight gold on the line.
