2012-10-14, New York, Credit Card Center
Author:Michel Sakr

After settling in the world’s top 25 MMA organization in such a short time since it’s foundation, Survival of the Fittest presents to you SOTF 14: Dragon's Den, an event that will be held on Sunday the 14th of October 2012, and will be broadcasted live on Pay per view from the Credit Card Center arena in New York, and as always in association with our merchandise partners Canadian Fighter Clothing. This event is expected to feature a load of exiting fights, and will be headlined by the middleweight bout between Jackson Comet and Oleg Osbourne. Now it’s time to take a closer look at each of the bouts:

Charlie Luciano v Chris Adams

And we kick things off with the two lightweights who each boasts a 1-1 organizational record. 23 year old superb Italian boxer and BJJ purple belt Charlie Luciano has suffered an upset lately. After defeating Billy Bunter at SOTF 2 in a fight that earned him both ‘’fight of the night’’ and ‘’knockout of the night’’ awards, he then suffered from his first professional defeat when he dropped a decision against Tommy Fire at SOTF 7. His opponent’s story isn’t too different either, after making a successful promotional debut against Joseph Sekyere at SOTF 7, 24 year old wonderful Muay Thai fighter Chris Adams was knocked out by Jason Easton at SOTF 9. So with both fighters hoping to bounce back, this should be very exciting to watch

Jason Easton v Nadi Tsunami

Still in the lightweight division, 25 year old wonderful boxer and respectable wrestler Jason Easton made a short work out of Chris Adams in his career debut at SOTF 9, and is now hoping to continue to establish himself as a dangerous player at 155. On the other hand, 22 year old Finnish superb wrestler and BJJ purple belt Nadi Tsunami is already considered to be one of the toughest fighters in this division, as he has already finished his first three promotional opponents, head kicking William Cockburn at SOTF’s first event, and then chocking out Ozzy Stanton and Ryan Apostle at SOTF 2 and SOTF 6 respectively. While Easton’s boxing could give him the advantage on the feet, Tsunami’s superior wrestling and grappling will give him a big advantage on the ground which could be too much for Easton to handle

Jagger Raffinski v Mark Calahan

In the light-heavyweight division, 25 year old respectable Hungarian wrestler and BJJ brown belt Jagger Raffinski was undefeated in his first four professional bouts, until he made his promotional debut and got caught by Stan Rosberg at SOTF 9, but he is now back to redeem his SOTF career. On the opposing corner of the cage will be 21 year old wonderful Canadian wrestler Mark Calahan, who earned the ‘’fight of the night’’ award for his debut win against Ron Kelly at SOTF 4, but then suffered from a setback when he was submitted by Gus Shamrock at SOTF 8. Since both fighters lack the striking tools, this fight will most likely take place on the ground, and will be decided either by Raffinski’s grappling abilities, or Calahan’s ground and pound.

 Henry Ballard v Jake Rosholt

Still in the middleweight division, two fighters with respective 2-0 SOTF records will battle it out for their third promotional win. 19 year old strong wrestler and Charleston’s own Henry Ballard has previously submitted Max Henderson in his debut at SOTF 4 and then followed it by beating Duck Sweeney via TKO at SOTF 8. Meanwhile, 30 year old competent boxer and wonderful wrestler Jake Rosholt got the decision victory over Mark Silva at SOTF 6, before finishing Max Henderson at SOTF 10. The veteran fighter looks to be the favorite to win this one, as he seems to have the advantage in most departments, but you can never count out the young Ballard who will be gunning to provide the upset.

Hermanni Holopainen v Dsdsds Sdsdsd

Time for some heavyweight action folks. 24 year old Finnish wonderful Muay Thai fighter and BJJ purple belt  Hermanni Holopainen suffered a setback in his promotional debut when he lost a decision against Ippo Makunouchi  at SOTF 8, but is now focusing on getting the victory that will set him for a fresh start in his SOTF career. On the other hand, 35 year old Finnish exceptional wrestler and BJJ brown belt Dsdsds Sdsdsd couldn’t hope for a better start in his new organization, as he earned the ‘’submission of the night’’ award for his win against Jackson Williams at SOTF 8. While the two countrymen are almost even in the striking department in terms of abilities, the veteran will have a huge advantage if he can take the fight to the mat.

Ippo Makunouchi v Marby Arcade

Still in the heavyweight division, 33 year old wonderful Polish boxer and wrestler and BJJ purple belt Ippo Makunouchi made a great first impression here in his new organization, defeating Hermanni Holopainen at SOTF 8, and is now looking to add another big name to his impressive victims’ resume. And that name is Marby Arcade, the 26 year old Philippino elite wrestler and BJJ purple didn’t have a great promotional debut himself, losing to Howard Moon at SOTF 9, and will now be looking to redeem himself. With Makunouchi getting 12 out of his 14 professional wins via (T)KO, and Arcade getting 7 out of his 9 career wins in the same manner, don’t blink folks! You don’t wanna end up missing what could turn out to be the ‘’knockout of the night’’.

Kazuyuki Shimizu v Duece Delta

We move down to the middleweights. 24 year old Japanese sensational boxer and wonderful wrestler Kazuyuki Shimizu is already an established name in the middleweight division, having already won his first two promotional bouts, defeating Dante Santiago at SOTF 2 and Rikki Tavarius at SOTF 13, and he will be looking to keep climbing the 185 ladder. On the other hand 31 year old remarkable wrestler and BJJ brown belt Duece Dalta will be hoping to make a good first impression here in the organization, just like his opponent did before him. Both fighters are real finishers, and while Shimizu is a knockout artist who got 9 of his 10 career wins via (T)KOs, Delta got all of his professional wins via various submissions moves and earned the ‘’submission of the night’’ award five times.

Junior Silva v Varz Defoe

Back to the light-heavyweight division, where two former champions will collide. 25 year old Brazilian exceptional wrestler and BJJ red belt Junior Silva is the former Boomerang light-heavyweight champion, and is one of the most entertaining fighters that you will ever see, as illustrated by the 8 ‘’of the night’’ awards that he has already earned in his career, including the ‘’fight of the night’’ award for his losing effort against Prime Time during his promotional debut at SOTF 8, and the ‘’submission of the night’’ award for his win over Eugene Bradley Burns at SOTF 12. On the other hand, 26 year old exceptional boxer and BJJ purple belt Varz Defoe will be making his promotional debut, and the former UFC light-heavyweight champion will be hoping to give an impressive display that could earn him a title shot. While the grappler will be gunning for his 11th career submission victory, the boxer will be eying his 11th professional (T)KO win.

Billy Batts v Pete Bowman

Still in the light-heavyweight division, where two exceptional wrestlers and BJJ brown belts will battle it out in their respective SOTF debuts in our co-main event of the evening. 29 year old elite Muay Thai fighter and Chicago’s won Bill Batts is the former GMFC and CoV middleweight champion, and has 20 victories in his impressive resume, including 14 via (T)KO. On the opposing corner of the cage will be the 26 year old sensational boxer and NYC’s own Pete Bowman who happens to be the former UPG light-heavyweight champion, and just like his opponent, Bowman loves to knock people out, as proved by 13 of his 17 professional wins which came via (T)KO. While both fighters are superbly well-rounded, it seems almost impossible to separate them in terms of their abilities in the ground game, but Batts could be the one who will have the small advantage in the striking department due to his world class Muay Thai abilities.

Jackson Comet v Oleg Osbourne

And now it’s time for our main event. Two decorated veterans will collide in what could turn out to be the biggest SOTF card ever! 34 year old sensational boxer and BJJ brown belt Jackson Comet is the former Vendetta/Hellbent middleweight champion, as well as the former DBC champion in the same weight class, and is a hugely entertaining fighter, winning the ‘’fight of the night’’ award six times in his illustrious career. Meanwhile, 33 year old exceptional English boxer and wrestler and BJJ brown belt Oleg Osbourne has also won numerous belts in his illusive career, including the UCW, Ascension and AFC middleweight belts. Comet will definitely have the advantage on the feet, thanks to his superior boxing and Muay Thai, and will be hoping he gets his 14th (T)KO win, on the other hand, the two fighters look dead even in terms of ground skills, but Osbourne surely knows how to finish the fight on the mat, as demonstrated by his astonishing 17 submission victories. Who will win this fight is anyone’s guess, but one thing is for sure, and that’s you don’t wanna miss this one!
