What’s up everyone Weston Markson here again, joined by Rudy “The Box” Knife for you HMMA 38 Preview.   The card is full of great fights there are some up and coming contenders fighting and some former challengers and champions.  We even have a Hall of Famer gracing the HMMA cage on Sunday the 28th of October.

Rudy:  Thank you Weston for the introduction I agree this card is awesome there are quite a few fights im looking forward to watching, in particular I like the CO-MAIN event and the opportunity to watch HoF fighter Laim Machin.

MAIN EVENT

Dragos "Fire"  Ilie (12-8)  v  John Conteh (6-0) RANK #7

Weston:   This main event fight is a fight that visits my former division the Light Heavy weight division, between #7 ranked John Conteh and Dragos Ilie.  This is going to be a great fight between two guys looking to make a splash in the division, Conteh comes into the Cage undefeated and looking like quite the contender.

Rudy:  Dragos is a game contender and has had some really good wins including a win over a former LHW HMMA champion.  He has well rounded skills but makes no bones about what he wants to do he is a ground fighter who brutalizes his foes with GNP.  He has been in the top 10 of the LHW division before and im sure wants to get back there and earn a shot at the champion down the road.  To do so he will have to avoid the great striking game of Conteh, Conteh is primarily a striker who will be looking to punch Dragos in the face as often as possible don’t be surprised if you see him do some dirty boxing.  In his 6 wins  5 have come by (t)KO.  9 of Dragos 12 wins have also come by (T)KO so I expect to see someone going to sleep one way or another.  Who is it going to be?

Prediction:  I expect Conteh to stay undefeated TKO

CO-MAIN EVENT

Tony Jaa (4-1)  v  Scott Lewis (6-1)

Weston:  This fight we have to lightweight fighters who are ready to throw down and cement there spots amongst the top of the division.  Jaa is making his HMMA debut and Lewis has been a staple in the division after losing his first fight coming back from a 4 month layoff Scott Lewis has been on a tear winning 4 straight fights by submission and making a name for himself atop the division.

RUDY:  Yea your right Weston Lewis has been running through guys and collecting arms Jaa is also impressive having won 4 of his first 5 fights although all by decision, this fight is a classic fight between striker and grappler, although both guys have the skill to hang in the others world for a while the winner of this fight will be the person who is able to keep the fight where they want it.  Obviously I expect Lewis to take this fight to the ground and Jaa to keep it standing.  I cant wait to see how this fight shapes up.

Prediction:  I expect Lewis to get this fight to the ground late and pull off  a submission victory.

MAIN CARD

Jack "Attack" Machin (10-6) v  "Death Row" Mickey Arroyo (12-6)

Weston:  This is another lightweight fight between two very skilled fighters, Jack Machin comes into this fight after an Armbar victory over Tarmo Suulas in his first HMMA fight, after making a big impact Machin takes on another challenge in savvy veteran Mickey Arroyo who has been up and down so far in his HMMA career.   Rudy is a firm believer in Jack Machin and has been singing his praises for some time so Rudy take give us your thoughts.

Rudy:  Machin is the real deal this guys is well rounded, but a submission specialist, Arroyo is dangerous on his feet and has KO power I doubt Machin will want to stand with him or Rudy could pull of a small upset here.  I cant wait to see what wins out here, power or ground skill.

Prediction: Im taking Machin by submission.

"The Mongo from Mongolia"Mongo Mongo (12-8-1)  v  Mike"The Deer Hunter" Vallely (18-14)

Weston: These are two middleweights who have been at the top, held titles challenged for HMMA titles, fought champions and had excellent careers,  now both are looking to get back on track and find themselves putting a run together.  Both of these guys have a vast amount of experience, what do you think Rudy?

Rudy: Well Marky I think this fight could be a fight of the night candidate I expect both of these guys to come out swinging and I have no clue whats going to happen after that, they both have solid skills striking and I think we will see both guys strike and see who has the better chin.

Prediction: Anything can happen here ill toss a coin……”The Deer Hunter”

Luke "rough you up" Couture (4-3) v  Alexander Fourie (8-10)

Weston:  The next fight is a battle between two HMMA lightweights,  both fighters are coming off a loss and Fourie is looking for his first win since April dropping 5 out of his last 6 fights with one being a draw.  Couture is making his HMMA debut but has looked good lately winning 4 out of his last 5 fights.

Rudy:  Both of these guys are all around fighters but they both are slightly better on the ground then the other skills they have, I expect Fourie to try and get this fight to the ground and Couture to keep it standing or possibly look for a few takedowns.

Liam Machin (7-4) v “Dino” Dean Martin (4-3)

Weston:  Next on the card is another 155lbs showdown between debuting Dean Martin and The Hall of Famer Liam Machin.  Martin draws a tough test in his first fight with the org but someone must think highly of him putting him in there against a former champion and HoFer.  If history holds true to itself Liam Machin will get the win because he has been alternating victories since April and his last trip to the cage was a disappointing loss that should hold true to a Liam winning, he has also never lost two straight fights.  “Dino” comes in after a win in his most recent fight,  he now has the opportunity to defeat Machin and make a name for himself in the division.  I know Rudy was looking forward to this fight more then any other on the card so im gonna toss this one to him.

Rudy: THANK YOU WESTON! You are right this is the fight I am most looking forward to on this card, I cant wait to see the HoF Machin welcome this highly touted newcomer to HMMA we could see Machin start another run, or we could see a new fighter emerge as a future contender.  Machin being  primarily a boxer will employ his typical punch you in the face gameplan, but what will be interesting is to see what Martin chooses to do, he is well rounded enough that he could hang with Machin on his feet at least for a while, and has a small advantage on the ground.  This is going to be a great fight.

Prediction:  Im taking Machin TKO.

PRELIMS

Bob Banks  v  Hakeem Diaw

Tarmo Suulas  v  Yoo Gun

Don Sash  v  Ultimate Brutality

Seany Scholes  v  Don Cerrone

Weston:  The Prelims of HMMA 38 are sure to be great fights often times these guys are the ones who really put on the good atmosphere and bring home some extra bonus if they do well.  The Prelim card has a Light heavyweight fight between two guys who we could see become contenders  in the near future In Bob Banks and Hakeem Diaw.   It also has as fight between two very skilled and dangerous 155lbs fighters who look to get back on track after recent losses one of them will get to do that and the other will have to try again.  Also we get to see another LHW fight between Don Sash and Ultimate Brutality two solid young fighters looking to showcase where they are at this point in their career.   Also we get to see the debut of LW Don Cerrone as he takes on Seany Scholes, Both fighters are well rounded but I have a feeling this one will hit the ground.
