MMA fans all around the world, New York’s fastest rising MMA organization, Survival of the Fittest, is proud to present to you  SOTF 17: You Only Live Once, an event that will be held on Sunday the 4th of November 2012, live from the Credit Card Center arena in NYC, and will be presented to you in association with our merchandise partners Canadian Fighter Clothing. This event will be packed with exiting fights, and will headlined by the lightweight bout between Richard Dawkins and Toshihiro Kai. Now let’s get our fight per fight recap started:

 Roman Colt v Giorgio Chiellini
We begin the night with a welterweight contest. 18 year old BJJ purple belt and Franklin Square’s own Roman Colt in still undefeated after the first two bouts of his career, including his successful promotional debut against Jerom Johnson at SOTF 11, when he won the fight thanks to an armbar submission hold, and is now hoping to remain undefeated when he takes on the 22 year old competent Italian wrestler Giorgio Chiellini who had his ups and downs here in the organization. After losing his promotional debut against Jamie Cooney at SOTF 3, the young Italian rebounded by submitting Robert Trutka at SOTF 5, but then suffered from another loss at the hands of Hannibal King at SOTF 12. While Chiellini is the more well-rounded fighter of the two, Colt is the better BJJ practitioner, and will probably be gunning for his second straight submission victory.

 Circle Jerk v Jagger Raffinski
We move up to the light-heavyweights. 21 year old sensational boxer and San Fran’s own Circle Jerk had a rough debut here in the organization, getting submitted by Michael David at SOTF 3, but has since won his next two bouts with impressive first round (T)KO victories against Trequan Adam at SOTF 5, and Gus Shamrock at SOTF 13, and is now hoping to continue his winning streak. On the opposing corner of the cage will be 25 year old Hungarian respectable wrestler and BJJ brown belt Jagger Raffinski who also suffered from a rough debut when he got knocked out by Stan Rosberg at SOTF 8 and thus receiving his first career lost, but then rebounded well by earning the ‘’submission of the night’’ award for his win against Mark Calahan at SOTF 14. Both of these fighters are true specialists, while Jerk is a knockout artist who earned 3 of his 4 career wins via (T)KOs, Raffinski is a BJJ wizard who earned all of his five professional wins via various submission moves.

Derek Safo v Adam Beaudreaux
Back to the welterweight division, where 28 year old wonderful British boxer and BJJ brown belt and the former AXF welterweight champion Derek Safo will be making his promotional debut. The North London native is a greatly well-rounded fighter, but his favorite winning method is (T)KO, as he gathered 12 out of his 16 career wins by knocking out his opponents. Meanwhile, 24 year old sensational Cambodian boxer and BJJ brown belt Adam Beaudreaux is still searching for his first promotional win, after suffering defeats in his first two outings against Vincenzo Calliente at SOTF 8 and Luke Warm at SOTF 11. The young Cambodian has earned all of his 7 career wins via (T)KOs, but he always suffers against superior wrestlers, and this could be the case again as he prepares to take on a remarkable wrestler in Derek Safo

Luke Warm v Hugh Matthews
Still in the welterweight division, 25 year old exceptional wrestler and BJJ brown belt Luke Warm has already enjoyed a great promotional debut, finishing Adam Beaudreaux in the second round at SOTF 11, and is now set to take on another tough challenge in the 31 year old elite wrestler and wonderful boxer Hugh Matthews, who will be fighting in the organization for the 4th time. In his promotional debut, the veteran won the decision against Roy Brown at SOTF 2, before suffering from a setback by dropping a decision to Vincenzo Calliente at SOTF 4, but then rebounded by earning the ‘’KO of the night’’ award for his victory against Zhang Zhu at SOTF 7. Matthews will clearly have the advantage in the striking department, as well as being the superior wrestler of the two, but he has to be very careful while in his opponent’s guard, because Warm is by far the better BJJ practitioner of the two.

Duece Delta v Jake Rosholt
In the middleweight division, 31 year old remarkable wrestler and BJJ brown belt Duece Delta had a forgettable promotional debut, getting finished by Kazuyuki Shimizu in the first round at SOTF 14, but he now returns to the cage searching for redemption by getting the win that will set him off for a successful run in his new organization. On the other hand, 30 year old wonderful wrestler and competent boxer Jake Rosholt has already established himself as strong competitor at 185, winning his first three bouts here in the organization, getting the decision victory over Mark Silva at SOTF 6, before finishing both Max Henderson and Henry Ballard in the first round at SOTF 10 and SOTF 14 respectively. While Rosholt will enter this fight confident as ever, and will also have the advantage in the striking game, he must make sure not to get caught by his opponent on the ground, as Delta is a true BJJ wizard, getting all of his 15 professional wins via various submission moves, and earning the ‘’submission of the night’’ award on five occasions.

  Junior Silva v Harry Potter
Back to light-heavyweight division, where two former champions will collide. 25 year old exceptional Brazilian wrestler and BJJ red belt Junior Silva is the former Boomerang light-heavyweight champion, but here in SOTF he is still unable to put a winning streak together, as he lost in his debut against Prime Time at SOTF 8 in a fight that earned both men the ‘’fight of the night’’ bonus, before rebounding with a win over Eugene Bradley Burns that earned him the ‘’submission of the night’’ bonus at SOTF 12, but then dropped another decision against Varz Defoe at SOTF 14, and now will be hoping for another successful rebound and possibly earning his 11th career submission victory. On the opposing corner of the cage will be 28 year old sensational English boxer and BJJ brown belt Harry Potter who is the former TD light-heavyweight champion, and will now be making his SOTF debut. The English man is a truly well-rounded fighter, but he prefers to win his fights through vicious knockouts, as demonstrated by 9 of his 13 professional wins that came via (T)KOs. What will make this encounter even more interesting, is the fact that Siva, who is one of the best BJJ practitioners in the world, will take on a fighter who has never been submitted in his career so far in Harry Potter.

Kazuyuki Shimizu v Elvis Ronan
In the middleweight division, we have a five rounds battle in our co-main event of the evening. 24 year old sensational Japanese boxer and wonderful wrestler Kazuyuki Shimizu has became one of them most feared fighters in this division, defeating Dante Santiago at SOTF 2, before finishing both Rikki Tavarius at SOTF 13 and Duece Delta at SOTF 14 in around one minute. But now he is set to take on an opponent from another level, 22 year old exceptional Irish boxer and remarkable wrestler Elvis Ronan will be making his SOTF debut, currently riding a 10-fight winning streak, a very impressive run during which he won the TWD middleweight championship and successfully defended it six times. The two young fighters share the same amount of professional wins (11) and also the same amount of wins via (T)KOs (10), so when these two knockout artists collide, except to see a vicious end for the fight which could really well turn out to be the ‘’KO of the night’’

Richard Dawkins v Toshihiro Kai
In our main event of the evening, two former champions who are considered as some of the best lightweights in the world will collide in what we can only expect to be an epic encounter. 29 year old sensational English striker and BJJ brown belt Richard Dawkins is the former UCLA featherweight champion and Ascension lightweight champion, and has already made a wonderful debut here in the organization earning the ‘’submission of the night’’ award in his victory over Xavier Sanchez at SOTF 15 in what was his first ever career fight as a welterweight. On the other hand, 29 year old elite boxer and BJJ brown belt Toshihiro Kai is the former two times SPFT lightweight champion, and will be making his SOTF debut hoping to add another huge name to his list of victims. Those two men mirror each others in terms of abilities that anyone who claims to know who the winner will be would be considered crazy. While the two champions are inseparable on the ground, Dawkins will have a slight advantage in the Muay Thai department, which will make up for Kai’s slight boxing advantage, but keep in mind that Kai will have a HUGE reach advantage since he is 45 cm taller than his opponent! Another fight for the ages awaits you ladies and gentlemen!
