2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tom Hess! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Standing darts in and clinches Hess up against the cage. Standing throws an elbow that misses.
Hess takes an elbow to the forehead. Hess jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Standing walks away with a smile on his face. Hess gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Standing tries to close the distance and clinch but Hess swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Hess drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Standing defends it well. Hess shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hess showed some decent athleticism there. Standing knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hess on the ground. Hess takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Hess is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Standing sees it coming and defends easily. Hess is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Standing is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Funk shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Smyith napping and manages to drive through into side control! Smyith tries to improve position but can't. Funk wants to control but Smyith is keeping him busy. Funk with the ground and pound but Smyith regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Funk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Funk takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
