Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ion Makhachev (ranked 4385 p4p, 4922 weight class) and Jason Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 460 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ion Makhachev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Jackson! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Topper Green.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Makhachev tries to clinch up. Makhachev sets himself, and Jackson steps forward looking for the clinch! Makhachev avoids it this time. Jackson clinches up against the cage. Makhachev fails to pull guard.
Makhachev tries to pull guard but Jackson forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Jackson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Jackson jumps guard but Makhachev turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Makhachev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Makhachev rushes Jackson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Makhachev breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jackson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Makhachev drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jackson tries to improve position but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Makhachev connects with a decent elbow. Jackson stops Makhachev from passing to mount. Makhachev is looking to take a break and control but Jackson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Makhachev is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jackson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Sloppy strikes there by Makhachev.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Makhachev trying to control the action but Jackson is working from the bottom. Makhachev stands up. Makhachev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jackson swats him away and circles back towards the center. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Makhachev. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ion Makhachev. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jackson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Jackson fails with a takedown attempt. It looked like Makhachev was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Jackson. No joy for Makhachev on that attempt. Jackson is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Makhachev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jackson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Makhachev somewhat. Makhachev doesn't manage to clinch there - Jackson circles away.
As Makhachev backs off Jackson throws a huge counter combo but Makhachev manages to avoid it all. Makhachev feints and as Jackson raises his hands in defense, Makhachev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Makhachev stands and steps away. Jackson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Makhachev gets tackled into the cage by Jackson. Jackson maintains the clinch. Jackson just leaning against Makhachev, taking a breather. Makhachev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Makhachev shoots in and bounces Jackson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Jackson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Makhachev manages to pass to side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Makhachev missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Makhachev thows a huge punch but Jackson dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jackson regains full guard. Nicely done. Makhachev wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving. Jackson controlling the position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Ion Makhachev dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Makhachev avoids the body shot from Jackson.
It looked like Makhachev was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Jackson. Makhachev looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Jackson has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Makhachev is on him like a limpet, forcing Jackson back against the cage. Jackson is trying to pull guard but Makhachev has him pressed against the cage. Makhachev drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jackson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Makhachev is pushing Jackson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jackson fails to pull guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Makhachev misses with a knee strike.
Jackson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Jackson tries to score a body lock takedown but Makhachev shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Ion Makhachev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Jackson. Makhachev jumps guard but Jackson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Jackson taking a breather. Jackson swings wildly with an uppercut but Makhachev uses good head movement to avoid it. Jackson gets underhooks to prevent Makhachev's takedown attempt.

Makhachev breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jackson keeps the fight on the outside. Jackson throws a counter combo. Jackson moves into range and clinches up with Makhachev. Jackson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Makhachev smiles and moves away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Makhachev closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Makhachev pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Makhachev fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Jackson checks it well. Makhachev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jackson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Makhachev avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jackson swats away the attempt to clinch by Makhachev. Makhachev throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jackson pushes Makhachev up against the cage in a clinch. Jackson stalls. Makhachev is trying to drag Jackson to the mat but Jackson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Makhachev tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jackson just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jackson is trying to pull guard but Makhachev has him pressed against the cage. Jackson tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Makhachev tries for a takedown. No joy.
Jackson pulls guard. Makhachev stands up over Jackson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Makhachev wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving. Jackson controls Makhachev momentarily but Makhachev frees himself. Makhachev might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Makhachev looking to sit in guard and control but Jackson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Makhachev is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Makhachev keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully. Jackson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Ion Makhachev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Makhachev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jackson defends it easily. Makhachev trying to keep a closed guard but Jackson is proving a slippery customer.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jason Jackson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round! Jackson avoids the head kick by Makhachev.

Makhachev fails with a takedown attempt. Makhachev lands a nice leg kick that just misses Jackson's sensitive parts. Makhachev displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jackson. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jackson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Makhachev pinned against the cage. Makhachev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Makhachev sprawls well. Makhachev wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jackson gets slowly back to his feet. Ion Makhachev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Jackson. Jackson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Makhachev sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Makhachev connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jackson. Jackson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
It looks like Jason Jackson has been cut. Makhachev misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jackson throws a sloppy head kick and Makhachev moves out of range easily. Jackson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Jackson goes for a double leg but Makhachev avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Makhachev continues to drive forward. Jackson moves into the clinch. Makhachev wants a takedown.
Jackson is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Jackson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson has momentary wrist control but Makhachev slips an elbow through the middle. Makhachev trying to control but Jackson is working from the bottom. Makhachev is really struggling to control Jackson but he's trying to hold on to the position. Makhachev stands and steps away. Jackson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Ion Makhachev is winning the standup battle so far. A chopping leg kick lands by Makhachev. Makhachev closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jackson quickly recovers to half guard. Jackson pushes Makhachev off and gets back to his feet. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jackson shoots in for a takedown but Makhachev shows good takedown defense. Makhachev feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Makhachev works a leg free and moves into half guard. Makhachev is keen to just control but Jackson is a slippery customer. Jackson is trying to control but Makhachev passes into side control!
Jackson is looking for a sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Makhachev wants to control but Jackson is keeping him busy. Makhachev decides to take the fight back to the feet. Makhachev throws a sloppy head kick and Jackson moves out of range easily. Ion Makhachev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Makhachev darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Jackson tries to get to full guard but Makhachev has control of the leg. Makhachev seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jackson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that's the end of the fight! Ion Makhachev showed his dominance in that final round. I think Makhachev has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
