PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Edmonds (ranked 1703 p4p, 1658 weight class) and Saul Goodman (ranked 247 p4p, 239 weight class). Edmonds comes to the cage accompanied by Frankie Smith - Double Dutch Bus. Saul Goodman has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Edmonds!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 38 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Saul Goodman!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edmonds checks a leg kick.
Goodman fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Edmonds connects with a jab.
Goodman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Goodman pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Goodman throws a leg kick but Edmonds sees it coming and moves out of range.
Edmonds has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Edmonds there as he acknowledges the shot.
Goodman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Edmonds throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Goodman.
Goodman misses with a hook. Edmonds ducked under it nicely.
Edmonds swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Goodman ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Goodman is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Edmonds shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Edmonds uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Goodman.

Goodman fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Edmonds manages to avoid it.
Edmonds was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Goodman bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Goodman has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Edmonds finds it's way round the side to connect with Goodman's head.

Edmonds takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Goodman is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

A little feinted left hand from Edmonds on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Edmonds swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Goodman lands a head shot.
Goodman connects with a good right hand that stumbles Edmonds. Edmonds circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Edmonds bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Goodman's head backwards.
Edmonds feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Goodmans jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

and Goodman counters with a nice leg kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Goodman gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Goodman looks to land a left hand but Edmonds moved out of range nicely.

Goodman wants to slow Edmonds down by chopping away at his legs.
A bone on bone clash there as Edmonds blocks the leg kick.
Edmonds is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Edmonds shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Goodman manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Edmonds is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Goodman can do to turn this around?

Edmonds bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Edmonds clobbers Goodman with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Edmonds.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Edmonds is looking to take a break and control but Goodman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Edmonds is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Goodman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Goodman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Edmonds escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Goodman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Saul Goodman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Edmonds is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Goodman is fighting to break Edmonds's control of his arms but Edmonds is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Goodman wants to control from the top but Edmonds keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Edmonds is on top in guard.


Edmonds has gone for a leg lock! Goodman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Edmonds's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Goodman is sitting in close to Edmonds's body. Edmonds has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Goodman is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Goodman is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Edmonds.
