PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Syd Rummel (ranked 1970 p4p, 3361 weight class) and Eddie Miller (ranked 70 p4p, 113 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Miller's choice of entrance music: Not Falling. Eddie Miller has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Syd Rummel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 1, fighting out of New York, Eddie Miller!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rummel rushes Miller and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Miller can't get the takedown.
I was talking to Rummel's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Miller is defending well against a takedown attempt.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Miller.

Miller has picked Rummel up - he's going for a ride! Miller dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Miller looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Miller trying to control from half guard but Rummel is working away.
Rummel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miller is working away from the top position though.
Rummel wants to improve his position but Miller is controlling well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Miller pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
An attempted straight right counter from Rummel misses the target.
Rummel digs a good hook to Miller's body.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Miller. Rummel shrugs it off though.
Miller blocks a jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Miller.
Miller swings widly with a right hand
and Rummel counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Eddie Miller has been cut.
Rummel throws an off balance right hand
enabling Miller to counter with a crisp jab.
Rummel jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Miller uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rummel.

Miller manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Rummel on his heels. He'll look to pass Rummel's guard now, I'm sure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rummel tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rummel is working hard here to advance position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Miller slips under a jab.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rummel drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rummel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Miller controls Rummel momentarily but Rummel frees himself.
Rummel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Miller looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Rummel postures up in Miller's guard and throws a big left but Miller blocks it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rummel being controlled here momentarily.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Syd Rummel will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Eddie Miller's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!

Miller throws a head kick that misses.
Miller fails to land with a series of punches.
Rummel swings widly with a right hand
and Miller counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Miller is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rummel.
Miller throws a jab but it's blocked by Rummel.
A low kick lands for Miller.
Rummel wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Miller turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Miller tries a head kick but it misses.
A shot to the body from Miller misses
and Rummel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Miller throws a body punch but Rummel moves out of range.
Rummel tries to clinch but Miller moves out of range.
Miller misses with a straight right.
Rummel is looking to counter punch.
Miller pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Miller throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rummel sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Miller listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Miller scores with a head kick.
Rummel missing with a left hand there. Miller was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Miller misses with a kick to the body.
Miller has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rummel on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Miller ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Rummel misses with a right hand
and Miller counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Rummel lands a jab to Miller's midsection.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rummel will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rummel ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Miller moves away.
Miller feints the counter takedown.

Miller misses with a body punch
and Rummel counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Miller misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Miller tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rummel was well out of range. Poor timing from Miller.
Miller throws a push kick but Rummel slaps the foot to one side.
Rummel was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Miller swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Rummel counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Miller is breathing heavily.
Rummel keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Rummel ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Eddie Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rummel lands with a hook. Miller tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

That has opened up Eddie Miller's cut even more.

Rummel moves into range and throws a big uppercut. OH! Miller goes down! Can Rummel finish him!?

Miller is rocked!

The cut above Eddie Miller's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rummel working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Miller is still in real trouble! Can Rummel finish him?

Eddie Miller's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Eddie Miller's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Syd Rummel!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Syd Rummel waved his t-shirt featuring Mile High's logo in front of the cameras.
