PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 25110 p4p, 25084 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buktot keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Buktot half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Buut is trying hard to land a takedown here. Buktot sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Buktot throws a quick counter kick to the body but Buut avoids it.

Buut looking to score a takedown here. Buktot is defending well but Buut drives through and ends up in Buktot's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Buktot manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Buut has hold of one of Buktot's legs. Buktot is fighting the takedown attempt but Buut gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Buut sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Buut stopping the sweep attempt from Buktot.
Buktot pulls Buut in to control the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Buut's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Buut misses with a head kick.
It appears Buktot was looking to counter with a kick there.

Buut shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Buut was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buktot is trying to get back to half guard.
Buut is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Buktot will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Buktot tries to improve position but can't.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee asks Buut politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Buut prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Buktot is holding Buut down, trying to stall.
Buut moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Buktot is trying to control Buut's posture but Buut avoids it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Buut.
It appears Buktot was looking to counter with a kick there.
Buut has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Buut but Buut pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Buktot leaves Buut with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Buktot looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walay Buut.

Buut dives in and scores a takedown into Buktot's guard.
Buktot seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Buut wants to control from the top but Buktot keeps moving.
Walay Buut has got the better of the ground game so far.
Buktot wants to hit a sweep here but Buut passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Buktot there!
Buut controlling the pace for now.

Buktot tries to hold on but Buut postures up.
Buktot is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Buut tries to control but Buktot wriggling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Buktot tries to reverse the position but Buut maintains control.
Buut misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buktot is squirming around, avoiding Buut's attempts to control the action.
Buktot tries to lock up and control but Buut gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Buut looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Buktot trying to hold on to Buut's head to control him but Buut postures up.
Buut is controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Buktot controlling the position well.
Buut is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Buktot is refusing to be controlled, as Buut sits in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Buut is controlling the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Buktot defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Buut.
Buktot went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Buut shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Buktot's guard.
Buktot is adopting a defensive guard.

Buut is stalling in the full guard.
Buut trying to control but Buktot is working from the bottom.
Buut sitting in guard here, content to control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Let's hope that Buut has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Dawindi Buktot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Walay Buut is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
