Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Oneil (ranked 20 p4p, 396 weight class) and Kobra Jay (ranked 2 p4p, 31 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Oneil might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Metallica - Spit Out The Bone. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 16 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Oneil! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kobra Jay! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jay ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Jay replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Oneil blocks it well. Jay takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Oneil has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Oneil misses with a left hand and Jay counters with a straight right hand. Oneil misses the body punch and Jay counters with a nice uppercut. David Oneil seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Horrible takedown attempt by Oneil or perhaps it was just good defense by Jay, which made it look bad. Jay pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Jay takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oneil takes a swing at Jay's ribcage but misses. Jay throws the left hand but Oneil avoids the punch easily. Oneil feinted with a counter takedown. Oneil ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jay moves away. Oneil scores with a decent looking hook.

and Jay counters with a nice uppercut. Jay gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Jay looking to hit a scissor sweep but Oneil is one step ahead there. Oneil stops Jay from standing up. Oneil postures up in Jay's guard and throws a big left but Jay blocks it. Jay wants to sweep here but Oneil controlling him for the moment. Oneil has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Jay has his hands on Oneil's head, controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Oneil drops back looking for a leg! Jay is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jay manages to kick Oneil off! Oneil jumps back into Jay's guard. Oneil prevents Jay from getting back to his feet. Oneil pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jay is keeping the position for now. Jay is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Oneil trying to control but Jay is working from the bottom. Jay looking to hit a scissor sweep but Oneil is one step ahead there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Oneil throwing strikes but missing. Oneil tries to free his leg and advance position but Jay is retaining full guard.

Jay is looking to escape. Oneil wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jay keeps working. Jay is concentrating on defense, preventing Oneil from advancing position.

Oneil thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jay's head. Jay is trying to stand.
Oneil throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Jay keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Oneil thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Oneil moves into full mount! Jay won't be happy about that! Oneil has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jay's face.
Oneil working away from the top, dropping strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Jay regains half guard. Oneil thows a huge punch but Jay dodges it nicely.
Jay is trying is best to control the position here. Oneil is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jay sees it coming and defends easily. Oneil is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jay defends it well. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Oneil drops down looking for a counter takedown but Jay sprawls and moves away. Oneil throws a series of punches but Jay moves out of range. A looping hook to the body misses from Oneil. Jay does a little dance to reset his feet. A countering left hand to the body from Jay misses. Jay lands a right hook to the body.

Jay sneaks out the side door and pushes Oneil away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Jay throws out a loose jab but Oneil uses good head movement to avoid it. Kobra Jay is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Jay misses with a wild body shot. Oneil just misses with a punch to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Oneil shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jay as he avoids it easily. Jay doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Oneil missing with a left hand there. Jay was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Jay! But no joy. Oneil moves away from the strike by Jay. Oneil drops down looking for a counter takedown but Jay sprawls and moves away. Oneil is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jay can do to turn this around? Jay throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Oneil on the side of the head. Jay throws an overhand right that lands on Oneil's shoulder, as Oneil tries to avoid the shot. Jay throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Oneil stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Jay digs a good hook to Oneil's body.

It looks like David Oneil has been cut. Jay's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Oneil connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Jay scrambles back to his feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jay lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Oneil has Jay pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Oneil pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jay tumbling to the mat - Oneil dives into Jay's guard. Oneil missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Oneil preventing the sweep. Oneil wants to control from the top but Jay keeps moving. Jay is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Oneil tries to free his leg and advance position but Jay is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Oneil throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jay works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Oneil throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Oneil wants to control from the top but Jay keeps moving. Jay has momentary wrist control but Oneil slips an elbow through the middle. Oneil wants to control from the top but Jay keeps moving. Kobra Jay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jay is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Oneil presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to David Oneil. I think Oneil has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
