PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between souza davi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). davi's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, tema dos guerreiro. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

davi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
davi stops Rogers from standing up.
davi preventing the sweep.
Rogers wants to get back to his feet but davi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

davi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rogers dives on top into guard.
Rogers stays in close to davi's body and controls the position.
Rogers in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

davi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
davi looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
davi's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from davi is defended easily by Rogers.
davi fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rogers avoids it really well and circles away.
davi shoots for a takedown but Rogers saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for souza davi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and davi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rogers's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
davi stopping the sweep attempt from Rogers.
davi is breathing heavily.

davi drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rogers looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rogers looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rogers!

Rogers throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
davi is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Poor strikes thrown by Rogers there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
davi tries to reverse the position but Rogers maintains control.
Rogers wants to control the pace but davi is squirming around nicely.
Rogers thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and davi counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rogers's guard now.
davi works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Rogers is defending against the submission attempts here by davi.
Rogers is looking to control davi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rogers avoid being mounted?
Rogers gets back to full guard.

davi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Rogers throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Rogers is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

davi trying to control the position from guard on top but Rogers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rogers manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. davi manages to get himself to full guard.
Rogers wants to stand but davi is controlling his posture from full guard.

Rogers working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
davi working a defensive guard but Rogers passes into half guard.
Rogers wants to stand up but davi has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Rogers is looking to take a break and control but davi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
davi is looking to control Rogers's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can davi avoid being mounted?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rogers is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and davi defends it well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
davi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and davi counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by davi.
Rogers is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst davi is controlling him.

Rogers is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! davi has his hands clasped together but Rogers extends an breaks davi's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Rogers.
