Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gale Rival (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Worthington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Worthington has chosen Song 2 by Blur as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Worthington looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Rival is trying hard to land a takedown here. Worthington sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Worthington takes a swing at Rival's ribcage but misses. Rival clinches with his opponent.
Rival's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A solid leg kick lands there for Worthington.
Rival misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Rival tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Worthington swivels and escapes. Steven Worthington seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Worthington pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Worthington connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Worthington throws a low kick, looking for Rival's leg but Rival calmly moves out of range. Worthington looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Rival feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Rival throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Worthington works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Rival throwing strikes but missing.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rival wants to get up but he can't break Worthington's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Rival thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rival looking to pass the guard. Rival throwing strikes from guard but Worthington blocks nicely. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Worthington can do anything to dispel that myth. Worthington keeping moving, preventing Rival from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Worthington looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Rival has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Steven Worthington was stalling too much, according to the referee. Rival shoots in for a double leg but Worthington sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Worthington dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Rival shoots in looking for a takedown but Worthington manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rival's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Worthington swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Rival. Rival avoids the head kick by Worthington.

Rival tries to clinch but Worthington moves out of range. Rival is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Worthington looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Rival shoots for a takedown but Worthington saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Worthington throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Rival wants to clinch up but Worthington keeps it at a distance. Worthington displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rival. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Rival crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Worthington - the referee stops the clock and Rival gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Worthington. Rival manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Rival tries to clinch but Worthington moves out of range. Worthington throws a sloppy head kick and Rival moves out of range easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Rival tries to close the distance and clinch but Worthington swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Rival tries for a takedown but Worthington sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Rival will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body. Worthington displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Rival has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Worthington. Rival fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Worthington avoids it really well and circles away. Worthington pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Steven Worthington showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee is keeping an eye on Rival - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Worthington looks for the body kick but Rival saw that one coming. Worthington looks to score with a jab to the body but Rival is just out of range. Steven Worthington is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Rival shoots in looking for a takedown. Worthington tries to sprawl out of it but Rival keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Worthington manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. A nice inside leg kick there by Worthington. That's going to slow Rival down.

Rival ducks right into an uppercut from Worthington. Rival shoots in and gets a takedown into Worthington's guard. Rival pushing down on Worthington's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Rival seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Worthington does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Rival is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Worthington is looking for a sweep. Rival is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Rival thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Worthington's head. Rival wants to free his trapped foot but Worthington is holding on for dear life with his legs. Rival thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Gale Rival has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Rival is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gale Rival. I think Worthington has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
