PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bob Striker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kelvin Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kelvin Stewart will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Striker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kelvin Stewart!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stewart closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Stewart's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Striker shoots in for a takedown but Stewart shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Striker avoids the head kick by Stewart.
Stewart tries to clinch there but Striker circles away.
Stewart tries to close the distance and clinch but Striker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Striker counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Stewart rushes Striker and presses him up against the cage.
Striker drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Stewart gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Striker breaks from the clinch.

Striker feints and as Stewart raises his hands in defense, Striker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Striker's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Stewart is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Striker is controlling him.

Stewart scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Striker looking to score a takedown here. Stewart is defending well but Striker drives through and ends up in Stewart's guard.

Striker stands up from Stewart's guard - Striker perhaps looking for a knockout.
Striker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Striker tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Striker fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Striker. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Striker closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Stewart blocks a body shot from Striker.
Striker has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stewart is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Striker pulls guard successfully.

Stewart stands up and waves to Striker to follow him.
Stewart motions for Striker to come forward. Stewart throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Kelvin Stewart is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Stewart tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Striker counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Striker.
Stewart tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Striker smiles and moves away.

Stewart has taken the fight to the clinch.
Striker misses with some punches.
Striker stalling the fight.
Striker is pressed up against the cage. Stewart has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Striker down to the mat. Striker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Striker decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Striker frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Stewart tries to buck Striker off but he can't manage it.
Striker controlling the pace for now.

Striker is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Striker takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Striker can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Stewart is looking to escape.

Stewart is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Striker is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Stewart gets caught napping as Striker dives in and scores a takedown. Stewart manages to retain guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Striker closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Striker throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Striker takes the fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Striker shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stewart pinned against the cage. Stewart gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Striker works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Stewart wants to stand but Striker is controlling the position.

Striker's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Stewart really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Striker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bob Striker wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Stewart fails to land with a series of punches.
Striker scores with a nice strike.

Stewart clinches up with Striker and pushes him back against the cage.

Striker gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Stewart kicks Striker off and gets to his feet.
Striker throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stewart's waist but Stewart gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Striker off to one side.

Stewart is trying to drag Striker to the mat but Striker just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Striker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stewart keeps working.

Striker is trying to work for a kimura but Stewart is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Stewart wants to stand back up but Striker manages to pass into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bob Striker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Striker remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Stewart's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Stewart throws out a loose jab but Striker uses good head movement to avoid it.

Striker shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stewart defends it nicely.

Striker fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stewart sprawls well initially but Striker persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Well, if Striker is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Stewart is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Striker has taken his back!

Stewart takes a big shot to the side of the head.

Stewart is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Striker is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Stewart defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Stewart is trying to defend against the choke here but Striker has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Striker Tightens the hold and Stewart taps out furiously! Striker displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
