Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ricardo Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Duane Makin!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makin has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Mitchell.
Makin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Makin gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Mitchell counters with a takedown into side control.

Mitchell decides to stand back up.
Makin tries for a takedown but Mitchell circles away easily
and Mitchell counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Makin thinking.
Ricardo Mitchell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duane Makin.
Mitchell throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Makin wants to clinch but Mitchell slips to the side

and Mitchell counters by moving into the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mitchell tries to close the distance and clinch but Makin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nice sprawl there from Mitchell as Makin shoots in.
Mitchell tries a head kick but it misses.

Mitchell drives through and clinches with Makin against the cage.
Makin landing knees to the head.

Mitchell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mitchell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Makin tries to free his leg and advance position but Mitchell is retaining full guard.
Makin won't allow Mitchell to sweep him here.
Makin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mitchell is keeping the position for now.
Mitchell wants to sweep here but Makin controlling him for the moment.

Mitchell pulls Makin in close to prevent any damage.
Makinis looking to pass into half guard but Mitchell pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Mitchell is in guard.

Makin tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Mitchell drives through and clinches with Makin against the cage.
Mitchell connects with a knee to the head.

Mitchell drags the fight down to the ground.

Mitchell wriggles free and stands up.

Mitchell darts in and clinches Makin up against the cage.
Makin tries to pull guard but Mitchell forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Mitchell lands a hook to the side of the head.
Makin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mitchell smiles and moves away.
Mitchell lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Mitchell has managed to clinch.

Mitchell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee is keeping an eye on Mitchell - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Mitchell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mitchell manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Makin on his heels. He'll look to pass Makin's guard now, I'm sure.
Mitchell is looking to stand up but Makin won't let him.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We're going to have a standup here because Ricardo Mitchell wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Mitchell looks for a takedown but Makin sprawls well.
Mitchell shoots in for a double leg but Makin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Mitchell fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Makin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Mitchell drives through with a takedown into Makin's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Mitchell had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Makin defends it easily.

Mitchell thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Makin if he has to take too many more of those.

Duane Makin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mitchell's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Mitchell duly obliges.
