Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reid Madden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Derek Johnson !
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madden is looking to chop away at Johnson 's legs.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Johnson missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Madden. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Madden trying to control from the bottom.
Johnson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Madden is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Johnson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Madden knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Madden makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Madden.

Madden has his foot on Johnson 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Madden has Johnson pulled in close to control his posture.
Johnson controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson postures up.
Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Madden gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Madden postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson controlling the position.
Madden wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Johnson drives through and clinches with Madden against the cage.

Madden pulls guard.
Johnson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Madden gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Madden trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet but Madden passes into half guard.

Madden has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Johnson defend it? Madden steps over the head and cranks it - Johnson is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Madden!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Reid Madden!
