Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Cozard Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eduardo Barros (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cozard Jr comes to the cage accompanied by Hey Tonight-Creedence Clearwater Revival. The crowd seem to be enjoying Barros's choice of entrance music: Carmina burana. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Cozard Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Barros! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barros looks to land a combination but Cozard Jr avoids it well. Cozard Jr circles away from the clinch attempt.
Barros misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cozard Jr.
Barros throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Cozard Jr counters with a lovely straight right hand! Barros has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Barros defending well as Cozard Jr loads up on a big left hand. Cozard Jr stuffs the takedown attempt from Barros. Barros gets slowly back to his feet. No luck for Barros with that takedown attempt. Cozard Jr throws a combination. Barros tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Cozard Jr shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Barros sprawls well. Barros wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cozard Jr gets slowly back to his feet. Cozard Jr ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Barros moves away. Eduardo Barros seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cozard Jr connects with a nice looking jab.
Barros changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cozard Jr looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Cozard Jr is looking for a sweep. Cozard Jr is trying to control Barros's posture but Barros avoids it. Cozard Jr wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Barros wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cozard Jr keeps working. Cozard Jr avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Barros. Barros has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barros wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cozard Jr, who protects the arm well. Cozard Jr on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cozard Jr tries to get out of the position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cozard Jr dodges the ground and pound from Barros. Cozard Jr struggling a bit here. Barros trying to control the position but Cozard Jr is working away. Cozard Jr managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Barros.
Barros postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Cozard Jr can't do much from the bottom here. Cozard Jr on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Cozard Jr is trying to control Barros's posture but Barros avoids it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barros trying to control the action but Cozard Jr is working from the bottom. Barros tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Barros has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Barros is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cozard Jr has escaped the position, nice work there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cozard Jr is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Barros asserts his dominance and retains side control. Cozard Jr is looking to reverse the position. Barros has an Americana. Cozard Jr didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Barros is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Barros hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Eduardo Barros! Eduardo Barros really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that KAISER Nutrition (160!/220$) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
