Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hilton Dalton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Derek Pascal! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pascal shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Dalton throws a head kick that misses. Dalton scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Dalton closes the distance and clinches. Pascal has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Dalton avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Pascal can't break the clinch.
Dalton manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Pascal trying to control but Dalton is working from the bottom. Dalton striking off his back but it's not causing Pascal any problems. Pascal wants to pass the guard but Dalton is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Derek Pascal. Pascal gets a takedown into half guard. Pascal is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dalton is just riding it out for now. Pascal eventually gives up the hold. Pascal is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pascal wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dalton keeps working. Dalton tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dalton is trying to get back to full guard. Pascal wants to control but Dalton is keeping him busy.
Derek Pascal has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Pascal walks forward, straight into a front kick from Dalton. Hilton Dalton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pascal fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Dalton to the ground. Pascal is now in Dalton's guard. Pascal wants to control from the top but Dalton keeps moving. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Derek Pascal. Pascal throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dalton's waist but Dalton gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pascal off to one side. Hilton Dalton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derek Pascal. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Pascal tries for a takedown but Dalton sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Dalton blocks the body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Derek Pascal dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dalton is defended easily by Pascal. Dalton looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Dalton moves into range and clinches up with Pascal. Pascal tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dalton just stands there and leans against the cage. Pascal can't get the takedown.
Pascal is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Dalton gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Hilton Dalton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derek Pascal. Dalton stops a takedown attempt from Pascal.
Dalton dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Dalton prevents a takedown attempt there.
Pascal has Dalton pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Dalton manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dalton ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Dalton no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Dalton keeping moving, preventing Pascal from controlling successfully. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Dalton looking for subs off his back but Pascal has passed one foot through into half guard.
Pascal is trying to control the action in half guard but Dalton is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dalton is in trouble now - Pascal has advanced to mount! Pascal controlling the pace for now. Dalton holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Pascal tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pascal swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
