Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elbert Walls! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frankie Costello ! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Costello takes a jab right on the kisser.
Frankie Costello seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Costello looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Walls gets caught flat footed, as Costello shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Walls has a closed guard, preventing Costello from standing up. Walls tries to land a sweep but no joy. Costello trying to control but Walls is working from the bottom. Walls looking for a sweep. Not yet Walls, not yet. Walls is working hard here to advance position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Walls had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Costello defends it easily. Costello stopping the sweep attempt from Walls.
That's one minute gone in the round. Costello avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Costello prevents Walls from getting back to his feet. Walls keeping moving, preventing Costello from controlling successfully.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Walls is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Costello moves into the clinch. Walls breaks from the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Costello looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Walls is staying active underneath Costello , who seems content to just control the action from this position. Walls has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Costello is working away from the top position though. Walls might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Walls is looking to improve his position.
Walls throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Walls gets full guard. Costello stopping the sweep attempt from Walls.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Walls looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Costello raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Walls misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Walls shoots in but Costello avoids the takedown attempt easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Elbert Walls. That's going to take a lot out of him. Walls has a takedown stuffed. Costello scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Walls is not content to let Costello control the position. Costello trying to control from Walls's half guard. Walls has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Walls striking off his back but it's not causing Costello any problems. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Costello is looking to work some ground and pound but Walls has wrist control. Costello won't allow Walls to sweep him here. Walls keeping moving, preventing Costello from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walls lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Walls. Walls gets the takedown into side control. Walls tries for a kimura but Costello is defending well. Walls working the ground and pound. Costello is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Costello is positioning himself to get back to half guard. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walls stands up and we're back to a striking position. Walls goes for a double leg but Costello avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Costello continues to drive forward. Costello is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Walls gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Costello preventing the sweep. Costello tries to free his leg and advance position but Walls is retaining full guard. Walls looking to hit a scissor sweep but Costello is one step ahead there. Walls could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Costello looking to sit in guard and control but Walls gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Walls trying to control the position from guard on top but Costello is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Walls cracks Costello with a solid left hand. Walls with a nice head shot there. Walls throwing strikes from guard but Costello blocks nicely. Walls gets to his feet. Costello looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Walls fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Costello avoids it really well and circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Elbert Walls. That's going to take a lot out of him. Costello gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Walls to score an easy takedown into full guard. Walls postures up and lands a big shot to Costello 's brow. Costello is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Walls is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Walls trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Walls throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Costello works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Walls trying to control but Costello is working from the bottom. Walls drops back looking for a leg! Costello is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Costello manages to kick Walls off! Walls jumps back into Costello 's guard. Costello is working an open guard so Walls takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Walls shoots in and gets a takedown into Costello 's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Elbert Walls dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Walls closes this distance looking for a takedown but Costello circles away. Costello gets a clinch. Walls wants to get back to striking at distance but Costello won't allow it.
Costello has Walls pressed against the cage, preventing Walls from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Walls's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Elbert Walls is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Walls fails with an attempt to clinch.
Costello closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Costello lands in his opponent's guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Walls is on top in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Walls throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Costello takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walls is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Costello looking for a sweep. Not yet Costello , not yet. Walls in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Walls decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Costello , up you get! Walls closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Walls lands in his opponent's guard. Walls throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Costello works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Costello utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Costello looking for a sweep. Not yet Costello , not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Walls looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Walls trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Walls is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Costello has momentary wrist control but Walls slips an elbow through the middle. Costello has a closed guard, preventing Walls from standing up.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Walls dives in for a single leg takedown but Costello sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Walls closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Costello to the mat! Costello manages to get full guard. Elbert Walls overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Walls has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Costello is proving hard to escape from. Costello wants to sweep but no luck. Walls works over Costello with some ground and pound from guard. Walls decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Walls fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Elbert Walls. That's going to take a lot out of him. Walls closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Walls working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Walls fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Walls connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Costello some visible discomfort.
Walls decides to stand up, so the ref orders Costello to his feet. Walls is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Costello can do to turn this around? Horrible takedown attempt by Walls or perhaps it was just good defense by Costello , which made it look bad. Walls tries to keep at a distance but Costello has taken the fight into the clinch. Walls manages to break the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Walls looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Walls shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that's the end of the fight! Elbert Walls showed his dominance in that final round. I think Walls has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
