The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beard tries to keep at a distance but Diaz has taken the fight into the clinch.
Diaz jumps guard and drags Beard to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Diaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Beard defends well.
Diaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Beard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Beard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Beard throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Diaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Beard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Beard is posturing up here but Diaz has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Beard tries to roll out but it's too tight and Beard has to tap! Slick submission there by Diaz!

Black Diaz was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
