PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Misha Collins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koulouraki Souvlaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Souvlaki is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Greek Anthem. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Misha Collins!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Koulouraki Souvlaki!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souvlaki has a takedown stuffed.
Collins misses with a body shot.
Collins looks to score with a jab to the body but Souvlaki is just out of range.
Souvlaki with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Collins to score with a decent uppercut.
Souvlaki showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Collins.
Koulouraki Souvlaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Souvlaki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A little feinted left hand from Collins on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Souvlaki has a takedown stuffed.
A jab from Collins misses.
Souvlaki with the counter takedown but Collins avoids it easily.
Souvlaki shoots in for a takedown but Collins shows good takedown defense.
Misha Collins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Koulouraki Souvlaki.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from Collins. Souvlaki does a little dance to reset his feet.
Souvlaki fails in his attempt to clinch.
Souvlaki shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Collins as he jumps to the side.
Collins throws a right and a left that both miss.

Souvlaki shoots in and bounces Collins off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Collins is trying to keep Souvlaki in close.
Souvlaki throws a big right hand that misses.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Souvlaki working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Collins controls Souvlaki momentarily but Souvlaki frees himself.
Collins is really struggling to control Souvlaki but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Collins is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Collins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Souvlaki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Souvlaki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've been hearing good reports from Collins's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Souvlaki trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Collins is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Souvlaki tries to roll over but Collins keeps him under control.

Collins seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Collins thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Souvlaki blocking the ground and pound attempt from Collins.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Souvlaki is not content to let Collins control the position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Collins connects with a nice short shot to Souvlaki's temple.
Souvlaki wants to get back to full guard.
Collins throwing shots but Souvlaki is blocking nicely.
Souvlaki on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Collins slips a nice elbow through Souvlaki's hands, connecting with Souvlaki's forehead.
Souvlaki is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Collins's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Collins's back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Collins won't enjoy being in this position. Souvlaki looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Collins is tapping - it's over boys! Souvlaki picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Koulouraki Souvlaki!
Koulouraki Souvlaki is the new bantamweight champion!
