Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Statham! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim Cahill! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Steven Brown and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cahill throws a combination. Statham tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
It looks like Jason Statham has been cut. Cahill rushes Statham and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Cahill pulls Statham into guard.
Cahill has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Cahill tries to land a sweep but no joy. Cahill working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Statham. Cahill seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cahill working a defensive guard here.
Cahill is pulling down on Statham's head to control his posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cahill keeping moving, preventing Statham from controlling successfully. Cahill has control of Statham's left arm, preventing Statham from doing any damage.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Statham misses with a double jab
and Cahill counters with a takedown into side control. Cahill tries to stand but Statham is controlling his head. Statham tries to bench press Cahill off him but Cahill keeps the position. Statham seems a little lost for a moment, as Cahill dominates the positioning. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Statham is looking for a sweep. Statham really is a fat lump.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cahill happy to just control the position for now. Statham looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Cahill is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Statham is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Cahill works to advance to full mount. Statham defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Cahill controlling his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Statham is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cahill lands a heavy elbow. Cahill working for a submission but Statham is keeping him at bay. Cahill punishing his opponent with strikes. Statham is breathing heavily. Cahill looking to secure an arm triangle but Statham defends it well. Cahill won't let Statham get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Cahill sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Let's hope that Cahill has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Statham might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Statham is in a horrible position here. Cahill smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Cahill lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Cahill controlling from the full mount. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jim Cahill dominated that round. The cut man is working on Jason Statham's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Statham misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Statham gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Cahill connects with a couple of short punches. Cahill sitting in guard here, content to control. Cahill wanted to stand there but Statham had control of the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cahill trying to control but Statham is working from the bottom. Cahill sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Statham's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cahill looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cahill controlling the action here. Cahill passes the guard and advances to mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cahill tries to control but Statham wriggling away. Cahill controlling from the full mount. Statham is looking to get to half guard. Cahill is in the full mount, landing strikes. Statham is trying to escape the mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cahill controlling from the full mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Statham knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cahill on the ground. Cahill lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Statham hang on? Cahill content just to control the position here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Cahill scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Cahill throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Statham has his hands clasped together but Cahill breaks the hold and Statham is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Cahill!
