Coming up we have a super heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Les Sobrante and Greco Roman. Sobrante comes to the cage accompanied by Primus - Fisticuffs. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Les Sobrante! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 6 losses; Greco Roman! The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Roman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sobrante avoids it really well and circles away. Sobrante feinted with a counter takedown. The fight moves into the clinch position. Roman drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sobrante pulls his leg out and moves away.
Roman shoots for a takedown but Sobrante saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Les Sobrante has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Greco Roman. Sobrante closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Sobrante (4) vs (0) Roman Sobrante is trying to get an arm triangle but Roman is defending well. Sobrante swings around for an armbar but Roman sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Sobrante's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Sobrante (4) vs (2) Roman Sobrante has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Roman looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Roman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Roman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sobrante keeping full guard, as Roman tries to pass. Sobrante is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Roman looking to pass the guard. Sobrante looking to hit a scissor sweep but Roman is one step ahead there. Sobrante is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sobrante looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Roman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Roman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Roman trying to control but Sobrante is working from the bottom. My spies in El Tico 's Academy inform me that Roman has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Sobrante is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Sobrante (6) vs (2) Roman Sobrante is looking to advance position but Roman won't allow it. Roman actively working from the bottom here. Sobrante is working for a kimura but Roman is defending it quite comfortably.
Roman is trying to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sobrante trying to mount his opponent but Roman defends it. Roman gets full guard. Sobrante sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Roman's guard. Sobrante is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Roman looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sobrante stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roman swivels though and keeps the full guard. Roman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Sobrante tries to free his leg and advance position but Roman is retaining full guard. Sobrante pushes down on Roman's leg and manages to get into half guard. Roman wants to get back to full guard. Roman works his way to full guard. Good work. Sobrante trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Roman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Roman looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Sobrante is defending well. Roman quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Sobrante has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Roman celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Greco Roman decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. |
