Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lesley Johns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Todd Edenberry! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Francis DeMontford and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Edenberry closes the distance and clinches. Johns drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Johns tries a body shot but Edenberry blocks it.
Johns is trying to pull guard but Edenberry has him pressed against the cage. Edenberry breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Edenberry feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Edenberry slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Edenberry looking to pass the guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johns really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Edenberry trying to control but Johns is working from the bottom. Edenberry landing with the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edenberry not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Edenberry won't allow Johns to sweep him here. Edenberry is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. It looks like Edenberry might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Johns will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Edenberry working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Johns not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Edenberry has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Johns is proving hard to escape from. Johns wants to sweep but no luck. Edenberry trying to control the position from guard on top but Johns is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Edenberry tries a head kick but it misses.
Johns slaps away a takedown attempt from Edenberry, before circling back to the center of the mat. Johns tries to counter by clinching up but Edenberry breaks away and moves out of range. Edenberry dives in and scores a takedown into Johns's guard. Edenberry trying to control but Johns is working from the bottom. Johns is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Edenberry would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Johns preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Johns working a defensive guard here.
Edenberry wants to get up but he can't break Johns's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Johns keeping full guard, as Edenberry tries to pass. Edenberry stopping the sweep attempt from Johns. Edenberry wants to control from the top but Johns keeps moving.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Edenberry throws a good cross that connects.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. A slapping leg kick lands for Edenberry.
Edenberry feints and as Johns raises his hands in defense, Edenberry changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Johns pulls Edenberry in close to prevent any damage. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Johns is on top in guard.
Edenberry looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Edenberry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Johns won't allow Edenberry to sweep him here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Edenberry working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johns. Johns trying to control but Edenberry is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Todd Edenberry dominated that round. The cut man is working on Lesley Johns's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Edenberry keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Edenberry steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Johns. Edenberry throws a hook to the side of Johns's head but Johns sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Johns's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Edenberry connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Johns scrambles back to his feet.
Johns is rocked! Edenberry shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. Johns takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Edenberry sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! Johns bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!
