PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carl Gustav (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walood Kassab (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kassab has chosen Merauder - Life Is Pain as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carl Gustav!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Walood Kassab!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustav feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kassabs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Gustav misses with a lunging right hand

and Kassab counters with a shoot takedown. Gustav fights it but they end up in guard.
Kassab stopping the sweep attempt from Gustav.
Kassab lands a couple of digs.
Gustav knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kassab on the ground.

Gustav on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gustav tries to get out of the position.
Kassab connects with a couple of short punches.
Kassab stands up over Gustav, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Gustav avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Gustav controls Kassab momentarily but Kassab frees himself.
Kassab stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gustav swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gustav tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kassab slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Gustav takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Kassab creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gustav is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kassab cracks Gustav with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Kassab immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Gustav is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Kassab!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Walood Kassab!
During a confident post fight interview, Walood Kassab thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Carl Gustav spoke after the fight, saying 'I just wanna dance'.
