PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bradford Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos Silva is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bradford Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carlos Silva!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Russell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Russell explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Carlos Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silva clinches up against the cage.
Russell is trying to break the clinch but Silva has him pressed against the cage.
Silva has Russell pressed against the cage, preventing Russell from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Silva tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Russell explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A bone on bone clash there as Russell blocks the leg kick.

Russell closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Russell lands in his opponent's guard.

Russell postures up in Silva's guard and throws a big left but Silva blocks it.
Russell wants to stand and escape but instead Silva has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Russell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Silva controls the pace.
Russell is adopting a defensive guard.
Russell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Russell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Silva is controlling him.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Silva looks to land a body kick but Russell moved away.
Russell tries to counter with a takedown but Silva is quick to defend against it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Silva lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Russell has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Russell and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Silva jumps guard and drags Russell to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Russell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Russell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Russell wants to stand but Silva is controlling his posture from full guard.
Silva wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Russell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That was a close round but I would say that Bradford Russell will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Russell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Silva manages to get himself to full guard.


Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Russell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Silva wants to free his trapped foot but Russell is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Silva is working for a kimura but Russell is defending it quite comfortably.
Silva is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Russell reverses the position - he's now on top in Silva's guard.
Russell wants to stand but Silva has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Carlos Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
