Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Korn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Artemis Franco! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Franco turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Korn with a poor takedown and Franco connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Franco connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Korn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Franco tries to avoid it but Korn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Franco to the ground. Franco escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. We've been hearing reports that Korn has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Franco explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Korn takes a swing at Franco's ribcage but misses. Franco is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Korn with a body shot. Korn shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Korn. That's going to take a lot out of him. Korn shoots in and bounces Franco off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Korn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Franco swivels though and keeps the full guard. Franco not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Franco can do anything to dispel that myth. Korn advances position into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Franco is trying to improve his position. Korn advances nicely into full mount. Korn working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Franco turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Korn off and cradles Franco's limp body as Korn celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). John Korn!
