Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerry ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Spencer Trout! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Trout dives in for a single leg takedown but sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Trout takes the fight into the clinch. Trout wants to take the fight to the mat but manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Trout manages to break the clinch.
throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Trout's waist but Trout gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing off to one side. Trout looks like he wants to counter punch here. dives in and grabs Trout's left leg, looking for a takedown. Trout pushes down on 's head and hops out. Trout tries to counter by closing the distance. Trout shoots in but avoids the takedown attempt easily. Gerry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Spencer Trout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Trout connects with an inside leg kick. Trout ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. throws a head kick that misses and Trout counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Trout takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Trout throws a strike but avoids it easily and moves to full guard. wants to stand but Trout is controlling the position. Trout is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Trout breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A telegraphed takedown attempt from is defended easily by Trout. Spencer Trout seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. has a takedown stuffed. shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trout as he avoids it easily. Trout dives in and grabs 's left leg, looking for a takedown. pushes down on Trout's head and hops out. Trout shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. defends it nicely. drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Trout manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. stalling in the clinch but Trout improves position. Trout tries for a takedown but manages to get underhooks.
is trying to maintain a safe position but Trout gets an underhook and turns into the cage. working hard to break the clinch. Trout throws a blind hook that connects with the side of s head. Trout breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - lands in his opponent's guard. wants to control from the top but Trout keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Trout throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Trout working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from . Trout wants to sweep here but controlling him for the moment. throws a big right hand that misses. Trout is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. cracks Trout with a solid left hand. Trout throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Trout wants to sweep but no luck. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Spencer Trout dominated that round. That's time! 's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
dives in and grabs Trout's left leg, looking for a takedown. Trout pushes down on 's head and hops out. Trout shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in 's guard. has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Trout has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Trout's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. No luck for Trout with that takedown attempt. Horrible takedown attempt by or perhaps it was just good defense by Trout, which made it look bad. misses with a two punch combination.
Trout misses with a kick to the body and cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Trout to the ground. is now in Trout's guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trout is pulling down on 's head. It's preventing any offense from , at least for the moment. Trout is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Trout is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Trout trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! controls the pace of the fight for a moment. drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Trout dives on top into guard. looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Trout passes 's left leg - he's now in half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. tries to roll over but Trout keeps him under control. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Trout in particular looking to stall. Trout thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trout controlling the action here. Trout wants to work for an arm triangle but is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. has a takedown stuffed. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gerry . That's going to take a lot out of him. scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. tries to clinch but Trout moves out of range. shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Trout defends it nicely. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. showed some decent athleticism there. Trout makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Gerry will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Trout looks to land a body kick but moved away. Nice takedown defense from . No joy for Trout on that attempt. Trout has his takedown stuffed and counters with a stiff right hand. closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Trout kicks off and gets to his feet. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Trout has taken the fight to the clinch.
Trout breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Spencer Trout is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Trout pushes up against the cage in a clinch.

Gerry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Spencer Trout. is trying to drag Trout to the mat but Trout just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. stops a takedown attempt from Trout.

Trout takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Trout tightens his grip and picks up, before dumping him to the ground. manages to land in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Trout is looking to advance position but has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! landing strikes from the mount. Trout is squirming around, avoiding 's attempts to control the action. lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Trout hang on? landing shots from mount. really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. looking to control but Trout is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. This has been an exciting period of action! is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Trout can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's three minutes gone in the round. lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
BOOM! connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Gerry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Trout has managed to escape the submission attempt.
swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Trout is now in 's guard. A big mistake from there, giving up the dominant position! looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gerry . I think has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
