Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cody Dillabrandt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Cowell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dillabrandt comes to the cage accompanied by We Will Rock You. Alex Cowell is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cody Dillabrandt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Cowell! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cowell closes the distance and clinches. Dillabrandt is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cowell pulls him back up using the underhooks. Cowell missing with knees to the body.
Cowell is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dillabrandt is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cowell to the mat. Cowell regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Cowell is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Cowell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dillabrandt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cowell has managed to get both his arms back between Dillabrandt's legs - danger averted. We've been hearing good reports from Dillabrandt's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Cowell postures up in Dillabrandt's guard and throws a big left but Dillabrandt blocks it. Cowell trying to control but Dillabrandt is working from the bottom. Dillabrandt has his foot on Cowell's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cowell works his way back into a safe position though. Cowell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cowell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Dillabrandt has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cowell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Cowell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dillabrandt's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dillabrandt is refusing to be controlled, as Cowell sits in half guard. Dillabrandt actively working from the bottom here. Dillabrandt is trying to stand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cowell throwing shots but Dillabrandt is blocking nicely. Dillabrandt is looking to control Cowell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dillabrandt avoid being mounted? Dillabrandt wants to get back to full guard. Dillabrandt trying to control from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Dillabrandt is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Cowell is trying to control the position but Dillabrandt postures up. Dillabrandt with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Dillabrandt is working Cowell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Cowell trying to control the position.
Cowell had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dillabrandt defends it easily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cowell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That was a close round but I would say that Cody Dillabrandt will probably get the nod. That's time! Dillabrandt's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Dillabrandt is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Dillabrandt tries to land a sweep but no joy. Dillabrandt is trying to control the position but Cowell postures up. Dillabrandt keeping moving, preventing Cowell from controlling successfully. That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Cowell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Dillabrandt keeping moving, preventing Cowell from controlling successfully. Dillabrandt has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cowell is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Cowell throws a punch but it's blocked by Dillabrandt. Dillabrandt drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cowell pulls his leg out and moves away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Cowell gets in close and instigates a clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dillabrandt is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Cowell lands a hook that snaps the head of Dillabrandt backwards. Cowell tries to throw a body punch but Dillabrandt avoids it by throwing Cowell back against the cage. Cowell throws a punch but it's blocked by Dillabrandt. Dillabrandt has Cowell pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cowell manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Cowell gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dillabrandt.
Cowell lands a good knee to the midsection. Dillabrandt won't want to take too many of those. Dillabrandt prevents a body shot from Cowell. Dillabrandt drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cowell misses with a body punch.
Alex Cowell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Cody Dillabrandt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Cowell lands on the inside with an uppercut.
