Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dj Brown! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Kerr! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A looping hook to the body misses from Brown. Kerr does a little dance to reset his feet. Kerr fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brown, pushing him back against the cage. Kerr tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Brown just stands there and leans against the cage. Brown's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Kerr pulls guard effortlessly. Kerr manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brown manages to get himself to full guard.
Kerr trying to control but Brown is working from the bottom. Kerr postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kerr is in close to Brown's body, working some short punches and elbows. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kerr with a flurry of punches that miss. Kerr in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Brown utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kerr scoring with some ground and pound. Kerr prevents Brown from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kerr trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Kerr working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Brown's head. Kerr has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Kerr is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Brown is wriggling around but Kerr manages to pass to half guard.
Kerr working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Brown's thigh. Brown counters though and makes it back to full guard. Kerr throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Kerr stops Brown from standing up. Kerr postures up in Brown's guard and throws a big left but Brown blocks it. Kerr throws a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kerr sitting in guard here, content to control. Kerr wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving. Kerr throws a big right hand that misses. Kerr works over Brown with some ground and pound from guard. Brown wants to stand but Kerr is controlling the position. Kerr throwing strikes but missing. Kerr postures up in Brown's guard and throws a big left but Brown blocks it. Brown will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kerr's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Brown utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kerr throwing strikes but missing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kerr controls from within his opponent's guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Kerr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brown works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Kerr working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Brown's head. Kerr seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Kerr trying to control but Brown is working from the bottom. Kerr gets to his feet and stands over Brown, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Brown felt that one! Kerr unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Brown from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark Kerr! A relieved looking Mark Kerr thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
