The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Rodriguez keeps control of Mendez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Rodriguez jumps guard and drags Mendez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mendez pushes down on Rodriguez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Mendez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rodriguez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mendez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rodriguez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mendez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
