Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Faction Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Mallett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan Mallett is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Faction Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Mallett!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mallett tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jackson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jackson misses with a body shot.
Mallett tries to clinch there but Jackson circles away.
Jackson throws a series of punches but Mallett moves out of range.

Mallett gets a clinch.

Mallett pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mallett clinches with his opponent.
The is referee keeping an eye on Mallett - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Jackson using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mallett has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Mallett breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mallett tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jackson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mallett throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jackson's waist but Jackson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mallett off to one side.
Jackson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mallett circles away.

Mallett looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mallett tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jackson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Mallett is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jackson sees it coming and defends easily.
Jackson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jackson.

Mallett thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Mallett won't allow Jackson to get back to his feet.
Jackson controls Mallett momentarily but Mallett frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mallett accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Jackson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mallett tries to bench press Jackson off him but Jackson keeps the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Jackson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mallett keeps working.
Jackson connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Mallett some visible discomfort.

Mallett is looking to regain half guard here but Jackson keeps moving and retains side control.
Jackson lands a few punches from side control.
Jackson misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Mallett is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Jackson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Mallett down.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mallett is looking for a triangle but Jackson pushes his legs off easily.
Mallett bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jackson's guard.
Mallett looks gassed!

Mallett stands up out of Jackson's guard for a moment - Jackson manages to land a nice upkick.

Mallett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jackson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jackson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Mallett wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving.
Mallett trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jackson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mallett fails with the takedown

and Jackson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Jackson scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Mallett on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Mallett lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jackson!
Mallett wants to take Jackson's back here but Jackson is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jackson wants to control but Mallett is having none of it.
Jackson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Mallett wants to control the pace but Jackson is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Faction Jackson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Mallett clinches.
Mallett will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Jackson up against the cage.
Jackson tries to break the clinch but Mallett is controlling the position.
Jackson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Mallett stops a takedown attempt from Jackson.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Jackson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mallett is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Jackson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Mallett misses with a hook to the ribs.

Mallett has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jackson clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Jackson defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Mallett's arms.
You can see the frustration on Jackson's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Mallett is trying to stick to Jackson's back but Jackson is turning into Mallett. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mallett's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Jackson.

Jackson tries to lock up and control but Mallett gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Mallett has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Jackson is in real trouble here. Mallett gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Jackson is tapping out! Mallett wins by rear naked choke!
