Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Landon Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Morgan More! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. More is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. More tries to clinch there but Wood circles away.
Nice shot lands for Wood. Wood looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. More drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Wood defends it well. More fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wood avoids it really well and circles away. More tries for a takedown but Wood circles away easily and Wood counters with a series of strikes. More will be more careful next time no doubt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. More shoots in for a takedown but Wood shows good takedown defense. Landon Wood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Morgan More. More rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wood moves out of range and avoids them all easily. We've been hearing reports that Wood has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Wood shoots in and gets a takedown into More's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! More keeping moving, preventing Wood from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood passes easily into side control. Nice work. Wood wants to control but More is keeping him busy. Wood wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by More, who protects the arm well. More wants to control but Wood postures up. More is looking to regain half guard here but Wood keeps moving and retains side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wood in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Wood decides to stand up, so the ref orders More to his feet. More looks winded! Wood plants his feet and throws a brutal three punch combo that sends More swiftly into unconsciousness! Right, left, right! Boom, boom, boom! More face plants, battered and bloodied! He might never be the same again after that finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Landon Wood! After the fight, Landon Wood was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
